"laughs out loud" (sic).... who would want to invade ireland? there is nothing of any value on a global scale to be found in ireland. ireland is safe from invaders but in peril from it's own governance.

Ireland is stunningly beautiful, has a rich history and culture, great music, and the people are more tolerable than most.

Didn't the Gallo-Romain (sorry, I don't know the english word for them) go as far as Ireland?
I'm surprised.

Luckily for Ireland, most foreign powers have poor taste. It may not have oil, but Ireland has space, and water, and beauty.

i am off to sleep now, and i know that the fate of ireland will not affect my mentality at the moment i awaken tomorrow. i really could not care any less than i already do about things that do not influence my own world. the fate of ireland is not of much interest to me so i will not think volumes about it.

Is it bad that I actually would like to go to most of the places people mentioned?

I love the Middle East, just not its dictators and fanatics... sort of like home. :P

I really can't think of anywhere I wouldn't want to go. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time at the equator or the poles, but I wouldn't mind a short visit.

It's good to know Ireland is unlikely to be invaded anytime soon ;)

Henbane, thanks for standing up for Ireland being worthy of invasion. I think England is also a country well worth invading, Birmingham is beautiful this time of year :P :lol

But, I guess the US has no taste, it'd rather invade some dusty hellhole that the countries that wrote the greatest literature ever written :P

People on the East and West coasts call it Fly-over country. Most tourists from Europe never get that far inland so I think you'd be fine.

well, i'd like to visit lots of places. i think there are interesting and beautiful things to be found everywhere. personal safety is not high on my list of priorities either (i may, or may not, have tried to touch a black bear in the wild. couldn't get close enough though).

i'm looking at a world map trying to pick a place i don't want to go, and i can't think of one. there are some countries with some policies or customs i disagree with quite stridently and i would probably get quite annoyed, but i would not turn down a trip if offered.

even places like antarctica have so much to offer... where else would you see yukimarimos (link)? they are amazing little windblown puffballs of snow. it's like the wind wants to have a snowball fight, and i think something so playful and peculiar is totally worth experiencing.

The Romans didn't make it to Ireland as they thought it was too cold for them :) .They called it 'Hibernia' which is where we get the
English word hibernate and the French word l'hiver = winter
The Vikings had been quite happy to invade Ireland though - it probably felt a little warmer to them than Scandinavia.
