I'm not afraid of the mice, but I'm terrified of the damage & destruction that they do. We live in an area with thousands of mice & rats, and once in awhile one will get in the house, or nest in a car engine compartment, or other bad places. Maybe once a month, a mouse will be loose in the house, and I've gotten pretty good at chasing them and catching by the tail, and putting them back outside. I hate to hurt/kill them, so I leave that to the cats later. I've never been bitten, but I've felt them nibbling at my finger as I'm carrying them outside. It doesn't break the skin, but I guess I'd be worried about an infection if they did really bite me. Thanks to the routine experience with this, I often get asked to help out when somebody has a problem with a mouse or rat inside. I worked in an electronics factory testing lab several years ago, and one day, a larger mouse showed up in the employee kitchen. I thought there was a rapist in there, when the girls all started shrieking! One of the janitors put a trash can lid over it, and then had no idea what to do. Simple: I put a square of cardboard under the lid; trapping the mouse, and just carried it all outside and let it go into the vacant land across the street.
I read that 70% of house and car fires in rural Ventura County, CA since 2005, were started by rodents chewing wires or gas pipes/hoses. My wife's brand-new Lexus got $5000 damage last year, when mice got into it, and chewed up the fuel hoses and blew up the car computer. It was not covered by warranty of course, but our insurance paid the bill. Also our truck got infested, and it would have been totalled if we had reported it. But I didn't want to lose it, so we fixed it ourselves (took 6 months to get the stench out of the interior), and the climate control and other electronics never worked right again .
We have several cats whose job is to catch & kill mice & rats, and I am not exaggerating to say that I have to collect a half dozen dead mice every morning in the springtime. It's just part of farm life, I guess.

IT HAPPENED AGAIN. Just yesterday we had another mouse in our house, this time in the kitchen. Again I was kinda freaked out and my mother was getting all hysterical. I was on the computer right outside the kitchen when it happened and my mum goes in and starts geting all panicky. So I went in the living room after she scares the living daylights out of me. I can't believe that a 24 year old male like me is afraid of one little mouse. I've been told that their more afraid of me, but I'm still freaked out. I think I know why it scares me. First it is a rare and new encounter for me and I don't like it when tiny little things run. Even though it's gone I still feel a little uncomfortable. I find myself shaking a little bit and closing my eyes sometimes. I keep hearing noises now like furniture creaking and I get a little freaked out.
