yeah. my childhood memories are now the only remnants of places i used to frequent: the cinema my gran and i used to walk to, civic video i used to beg my mum to rent from, the book/record shop i went to once and could never find again(i thought i imagined the whole trip), the old library in my suburb- it moved across the road but the new building doesnt have the same memories attatched to it, the theme park our family visited when we went on road trips and the list goes on.

bowl-a-ramas like the Hollywood Star Lanes in The Big Lebowski, which was razed I think back in 2008 to make room for a school.

You lucky duck! I need to make a trip to Southern California before all the old stuff is completely gone.
Vegas doesn't even look the same anymore. They implode the old casinos on a fairly regular basis I think. I'm surprised they still use the same sign when you enter.

i get very attached to places and buildings and i don't like when new things get built, old things get torn down or stores close and move. it upsets me that there are virtually no drive in theaters left either. i loved drive in theaters.

There's a group called the Recent Past Preservation League, and they try very hard to keep the old architecture from being destroyed. A good bit of it is getting historical preservation status now that we've past the 50 year mark.

That's just sick. That place has historical value, if for nothing else than the bands that came out of there. That's like shutting down Whiskey A Go Go.

Lewis & Clark theater was closed down, now it's some rental car facility, I think anyways.

Shame too, I miss that place.

The store where I used to buy my art supplies closed down. That really sucks, now I have to take the bus whenever I need more paint or a new canvas.
The place I went to primary school also closed down. And a candy store where we used to go. It was the best candy store in the area.

Ayuh. Then again the whole character of that part of lower Manhattan's been changing.

it should not have been shut down .. i can't believe someone didn't buy it just for the purpose of keeping it open as a club, profitable or not.

the New Beverly cinema here, which shows fantastic double features, was in danger of closing and Quentin Tarantino bought it. phew.

There was this indoor playground that I went to when I was little that was torn down. I have been to two waterparks that closed down. Also, several restaurants, video rental places and stores. There was this hotel in Portland Oregon that became a restaurant, than later burned down.

What was the place that burned down? I live in Portland.

The Greenwood Inn hotel. It was in the Beaverton (sp?) area, I believe.
