Thread isn't specifically about "careers", anyways.

I sense rudeness. My bad, I didn't know the real definition. And you're right, I guess I misunderstood the first post. The sense of rudeness in that is bothering me. I mean, my question was serious and I wasn't trying to be insulting or anything like that so why did you make it sound rude? Perhaps just because I was being dumb?

I wanted to be a vet...
Then I wanted to be a vet...
Then I wanted to be a vet...
Then I wasn't sure...
Then I still wasn't sure...
Then I wanted to be a vet...
Then I realised I couldn't possibly be a vet with my minimal qualifications
So I realised I wanted to be a veterinary nurse...
But then I realised I couldn't do that either...
So now I want to work with animals...

But in general I have always known I wanted to do SOMETHING with animals :)

A vet.
A marine biologist.

But then I did badly at chemistry, and realised I was a terrible swimmer and too fat for a wetsuit...

So I became a bookseller. Until my brain gave up, and I became a hermit.

I swear to God, this sounds so familiar.

I'm not even joking.

Have you, perchance, posted something about this before?

When I was a child I wanted to be a writer or a singer.

Now I am both (all my income apart from government student support comes from singing. I'm not currently receiving income from writing, but I'm compiling a large body of poetry into book format) but I am also a psychology student.

When I was 4 or 5, I wanted to be a teacher. When I got a little older, I wanted to be a doctor. Then I wanted to be a writer. Then a teacher again.

Now, at 16............I have no idea.

What about you?

5-13: Veterinarian
14-16: Writer/Artist
16-17: Detective
Now that I'm 18: I haven't got a clue. From that I only know I would've been a bad Detective. :D

But really, I don't know. Maybe a psychologist or counselor. Who knows?

I always wanted to be an artist for some reason. But when they'd go around and ask, I'd just repeat what other kids said.

Comic artist. That's what I do now, more or less. I make games, but they are more like comics than regular games.

Later I considered being a politician, but did not want to vote for something unless I knew irt was right - i.e. I had studied it in depth and considered all the options objectively, and was not simply doing what others said. So being a politician was out.

By the age of 12 I decided I wanted to spend my life finding answers so the world could be fixed. I don't know if that was a career path as such. "Job title: world saver" sounds a little pretentious.

I think I wanted to be:

Artist+scientist up to 6th grade
Hobo 7th grade
Stay-at-home-mom/artist 8th grade
Lawyer up to 10th grade
Engineer up to 12th grade
Math Edu/artist/ASL now

I guess we'll see!

First an astronaut (elementary school)
Then a computer scientist (middle school first year or so of high school)
Then a mathematician (after 2 years of college)
Then a hobo (I'm serious! Freight trains are awesome...after messing up college a couple times)

Right now I am a half freelance computer programmer/consultant, half carpenter's assistant. Neither one is actually even close to a full time job but I think I am on the right track of actually doing what I want.
