i bought a pair of Trippen (avant-garde German shoes) for about C$450. they are black ankle-boots that i wear with dresses.

before that, i had only one pair of shoes - a pair of yellow Adidas that cost C$30. i am normally very chea... errr, frugal. but i decided to finally buy myself a decent pair of shoes.

Maybe, maybe not.
Maybe it will be interesting to see what people spend on clothes.

I checked the Norris Jacket because I didn't know what it looked like. I must say I didn't care for it at all, and to throw away £1,050.00 on it is a bit overkill.
But if it makes her happy then so be it. It's not your money it's hers or her parents doe...

+ I don't care for Ralph Lauren they make ugly stuff.

But why? The only porpose this type of topic has is for people to show off how fashionable/rich they are.

I hate it when people use that type of excuse. Just becasue it's not my money and doesn't effect me in anyway does not mean I am not allowed to have negative opinion about it.

There is nothing wrong with showing of how fashionable you are and what style you are currently in to.
Bragging about having money is another thing and depending on who you talk to could have different reactions.

Have you given it the thought that some people aren't that rich and take credit loans to appear successful and fashionable to get that extra head start in some social circles. Striving to acquire a job where brands are status. Maybe they have friends with more money and they just want to fit in, to have something in common even if it's a shallow thing like expensive clothing and accessories.
There are different reasons. And you can't just jump to a conclusion that OP must be rich and showing off.
Maybe OP is really poor or average wealth and shocked herself when buying a piece for that kind of money.

~shrugs~ I just don't care, it's just another person in the economic order of consumerism.

Ok. But clearly you are allowed to have negative opinions as you just displayed.
You don't sound very positive....

Maybe you should ask OP what the purpose of this thread is.
So far I find it interesting. Not deeply interesting but fun to see how far some will go for a piece of clothing.

I like to dress up nicely and so I buy expensive stuff if it's really worth it... not all my things cost a fortune but some.

Yes there is actually, showing off how fashionable you are just proves what a mindless zombie you are. I don't know about you, but i'd rather people just wear what they want and not care wherether it's fashionable or not.

Yes I do know that some people take out credit loans to appear sucessfull and fashionable just so they can rase their social status and/or fit it, they often end up in debt and I find that to be truly pathetic. These people don't have an original bone in their body and care far too much about what other people think. I for one wouldn't want to be friends with people who care if I am not wearing the 'right' type of clothes.

I also like to dress nicely, it's just that what I think of is nic is probaly different than most peoples. Alot of the really expensive stuff that is deemed fashionble I find to be ugly or boring.

Im not sure because my parents used to buy quite expensive clothes when I was younger(I live on a golf course so I had to have some sort of posh image at all times until I said I wouldnt take it a couple of years ago).

As of the recently:
150€ leather jacket
120€ leather converses(quite pricey in Spain even the normal ones)

I could theoretically spend more on clothing but I hate showing off(one of the reasons why I asked my parents to stop buying me clothes was that whenever I was wearing something for the first time the first question my friends/acquaintances/whatever did was how much did the item cost)

I agree.
I guess I wrongfully merged the words fashion and individual/personal style.

Most of my wardrobe is cheap stuff from second hand and basic H&M. But I also have expensive Jackets and shoes for a lot of cash. And then I mix and match so that It will appeal to me and how I want to be dressed.

I also feel sorry for people who buy certain magazines just to see what's "hot and what's not", those kind of things. Mindless puppets indeed. But if you have a certain view of how you want your personal look/wardrobe to look and a really expensive piece of clothing matches that description then if you have the money you might buy it.
To make your personal individual look complete. And if it's a part of the current fashion trend then maybe that can be perceived in a negative way.

It's a very long discussion indeed.

But I think that we both agree on that people who follow trends and copy of those who suggest and sell a image mass produced for the norm is pretty sad.

for example the brand Ed Hardy. Etc.

The most I've ever spent was £800 on my wedding dress. It also became the most expensive fancy dress outfit ever when I was a corpse bride lol. Although if I got married now I would probably go for a simpler dress and spend less money.

The most Ive spent otherwise was £250 on a pair of boots. I went through a bit of a shopping craze when I had post natal depression and it got a bit out of control, I wouldn't spend that much now.

About 4 years ago, I replaced my entire wardrobe. It cost about $300. Since I was a child, cloths have always been a checklist. Not naked? Check. Time to start the day. Funny story about that, I once wore a striped shirt with camouflage shorts. The secretary at my job asked me if I had any mirrors in my house. Whoops.
