I live in Anchorage. I wouldn't want to live in Fairbanks, it's very small and the weather is extreme compared to here.

While you guys are fixated on the rape rate, you're completely ignoring our suicide stats. Also very high.

Thanks for the links Vandal. I'm creating a list of 'favorites' for job sites up there. Didn't have those.

Fishing jobs I might look into.. UAF's fishery program is also interesting. Amazingly, I can use many of the credits from the Anthropology major in the Fisheries minor LOL.

Ota: Its for school so Fairbanks is where I need to be at for at least 2 or 3 semesters.

Any number of reasons, many are the same as down in the lower 48 but the extended winters and lack of sunlight tend to take a toll on many. Drug and alcohol problems are fairly prevalent through out Alaska and especially in the native villages (because of this most villages are "dry" and it's illegal to have alcohol). Single women are a little scarce up there as well so if you are man don't expect to date much or at all and the loneliness pushes many over the edge (both in suicide and rape). And Alaska tends to draw a higher number of mental ill people since many see it as a place to get away from the rest of the world.
