This is interesting:

I normally don't, however, I once didn't and washed a red dress and everything in the wash had a pink hue to it.

My solution: whenever I get any new clothes, I am careful when I wash them..if it passes the test, it can be thrown in with the regular load.

i sometimes follow the instructions and sometimes don't. i don't buy very expensive clothing so i guess i don't have to worry too much. however... i shrink things ALL THE TIME in my laundry.

i can't bear the feeling of the scratchy clothing tags so i typically cut them out. and for some reason... i started to collect them a few years ago. they are a pointless collection but i like them. sometimes the tags have interesting graphic art or unusual fabric or a neat company name. plus they chronicle my weight loss, as the tags show my size going down from 4X to XL. i was thinking of asking people i know to donate their tags to my collection but maybe the collection could get unmanageably large.

When I lived on my own I washed all my clothes by hand in a sink because I didn't have a washing machine. I always followed the instructions then.... if I was going to have spend the time to do them by hand I'm going to do it right darnit! When there is a washer available I don't pay much attention to the tag.

I most always read the washing instructions, and I consider the recommendations. But I've been doing my own laundry since I was old enough to reach the controls on the washing machine, and I do it the best way I have found through experience with regard to preservation of material and color, and prevention of bleeding, etc. I hate it when someone else kindly does my laundry, as I don't want anyone messing with my clothes. I like to keep clothing in the best shape possible for as long as possible (I've had some shirts and pants for over 25 years and still wear them). I always separate whites from colors, and I always wash towels and jeans together but not with smooth fabric like T-shirts, so as not to "fuzzy" the smooth materials. I never put things with elastic (boxers, etc) in the dryer, as they wear out too fast. I hang dry all that. In fact, I often hang dry all clothing; only putting towels and sheets in the dryer.

So the bottom line is that I usually do a safer job than the tag says to do.

I don't even look at the label, and so far everything has been fine. Plus my clothes are not expensive so it doesn't bother me if they shrink or something.

I don't do laundry. I hate it even more than most people. I have heard of people who like doing laundry. I think they are crazy. I get my parents to do it.
