They are not ridiculous names though, are they? Personally, I like Cecily and Edwin.

I don't mind "classic" or truly unusual/creative names, it's the trendy ones that make me chuckle.

I won't mention the specific ones, but it's funny to look at your childs yearbook and see 5-6 kids with the exact same fashionable name in their class.

^That reminds me of the time I was at kindergarten open house. My kids don't or at least didn't have common names but I don't remember people cringing when we told them.

I like Cecily and Edwin too! There are several Edwins in my family actually.

I have an uncle named Richard.

Most of us would agree the names "Rich"
and "Rick" come from the name Richard,
but how did the name "Dick" come from Richard?

I had a friend in school named Roland Stone (his parents were big fans of The Rolling Stones). And before my parents settled on my name, my dad really wanted my name to be Sonny. Then he realized how foolish that would have been considering my last name is Byrne. Sonny Byrne? Sun burn? Yeah. That was a no-go.

And if I ever decide to impregnate a girl and she has a boy, I will dub him The Stig.

Well my brother once dated a girl called Tanya Hyde. When in Woolworths there was an announcement for a worker called 'Gay Pride'. Initially we thought it was a joke but this happened most times we went in there and yes, there really was a person with this name! Of course Madame 'Pride' could have been married into that name...

Others I have heard are:

Albert Hall
Dick Finder (who was coincidentally a urologist!)
Paige Turner...

Okay I'll admit I am searching the last two!

Me too! I am not a huge fan of Persephone, but I also like Cecily and Edwin. I have a lot of relatives named Edwin, so I probably wouldn't use it if I ever have children of my own, but I still like it. I would use the name Cecily. Around here, old-fashioned names are making a huge comeback anyway. I remember when I went to school, I had an old-fashioned name and was the only ______ is my entire school. The schools were filled with Katies and Jennifers and Ashleys for girls. Now there are a lot of Graces, Sophies, Lillians, and Isabels--all once seen as old-fashioned and not used during my generation.

I tend to like names that are uncommon. Just to give you an idea, here are some of the names I've given to original characters of mine: Ichabod, Johann, Anabelle, Maddison and Noella.

The most unusual baby names I've ever heard were Lemonjello and Orangejello.
