I remember when this place first opened. It was advertised by someone in a Asperger's Yahoo group and I just lurked here a few times because I was already on enough sites and I didn't need another one to take up more of my time. Then I literally forgot about this place and rediscovered it in 2006 when I decided to start posting in the autism community again except I would do forums this time than groups.

But I think it had always been popular from the start. I remember I was still 18 and had just finished high school.

I never noticed Aspies for freedom until 2006. I didn't notice other aspie forums either.

Age and critical mass I suspect. A lot of support sites for the newly diagnosed link here, and there's simply so many more people here that other sites seem hopelessly slow by comparison. It's also in the very nature of Aspies to be creatures of habit, you get used to posting here and other sites just seem 'off'.

*Bingo*

We have a Winner
Back in 2005, if one were to Google "Aspergers + Sex or most other things including Aspergers
WP was the overwhelming results winner. Today it's probably the same - Marketing - simply marketing.
