I use an antiperspirant deodorant with aluminum. I know I probably shouldn't but I like aerosol deodorants. I'd rather not have my deodorant applicator touching my skin as I feel like I'm contaminating it, especially if I'm putting it on when I haven't just showered.

The only times I used non aerosol was when I was locked up and they didn't allow aerosol cans.

^ Yeah, what's up with that question? The best human I ever met was locked up at one point.

As far as antiperspirant, google is telling me that it works by the aluminum ions going into the sweat glands and causing the cells in that make up the tubes to swell up until they pinch shut. That makes me wonder: why aluminum? Could another ion like magnesium also work? Since I don't see any using Mg on Amazon for "aluminum free antiperspirant" I guess not. (BTW, there's several Al-free antiperspirants on Amazon.) Maybe someone who knows chemistry will see this thread.

This advice might seem harsh but I don't intend it to be harsh just consider it to be more of an helpful advice.

I don't really see an alternative to avoiding deos other than to make changes in your diet if you're concerned about about body smell and include a lot of fresh fruit and fiber in your diet. You sweat smells like what you eat.

Aluminum is a neurotoxin, and is found in most antiperspirants. It has been linked to Alzheimer’s Disease, respiratory illnesses, reduced renal function, and DNA damage.

Quote:
In 1993, the World Health Organization said, "There is a suspected link between Alzheimer's disease and the toxicity of aluminum."
The Agency for Toxic Substances and & Disease Registry reports that "Exposure to high levels of aluminum may result in respiratory and neurological problems."

What's more, "antiperspirants are designed to be absorbed"; the aluminum and many other chemicals are taken into the body and may affect the endocrine and lymphatic systems, as well as being a potential risk factor in breast cancer.

You're right, and I recently made a 180-change to my diet. I used to live on 18 cent ramen noodles and other s**t, now all I eat is produce. (I eat out once a month to motivate myself to stick to produce the rest of the time. ) Granted I completely changed my diet before I found out about this, but I changed my diet for sure.
