I'm more scared to make threads than I am to make posts these days, though there are times that I'm afraid to make posts.

Am I alone here?

Sometimes I want to say something but I am too scared to say it because one I know it's an unpopular opinion, two I am afraid it will start a drama, three I am afraid it will break a rule.

Then I get mad at myself for being chicken and for not being "honest." I was more open back then but not this time.

Nope you are not alone.

In fact I'll add to your list with number four: moderators that decide to make up rules off the top of their head head and punish you for them retroactively and number five moderators that decide to stalk you deleting your posts and not even bothering to inform you of their actions.

I'm starting to secondguess myself when posting about my experiences because some moderators have had different experiences.

I can't say that I'm afraid all that much, but sometimes I decide that it's better to keep my opinion to myself. Sometimes it's a smart choice.

I've noticed the forums can be a little cliquey here -- that's why I stopped using them for several months. Sometimes it seems like the format is "Let's kill the outlander" as opposed to "Let's see if we can learn something from each other."

Yesterday was a perfect example of why I'm afraid to make certain posts.

No, though I'm concerned as to what is censored in my posts so it feels as if I'm walking on eggshells at times

Nah, it's not THAT bad!

(Is it?)

I remember getting harangued in the Writing Forum at one point because I mentioned having seven (eight now, actually) books published -- some people really seemed to take offense to this, as if I was thumbing my nose at people and saying "Look what I did, and you didn't!!" But it wasn't that way at all; I was simply trying to show that an Aspie can have some degree of success with this stuff. It just seemed like they felt some need to go out of their way to find some reason to attack me....

And maybe it's just me, but I thought a Writing Forum was for people to talk about their writing, not for people to slam others for actually doing some writing....?

:?

I never feel comfortable making any posts. I can never decide or figure out how to structure what I want to say.

Example: it took me about two minutes to settle on this post. :?

There have been several times that I have typed a post and then not hit the submit button for fear of starting some kind of drama. I hate getting into drama. So many times when I want to make some statement I will make the post stating that it is my opinion and may not apply to others. In that way I feel I am saying that I don't believe everyone need agree with me. I never intend to be disrespectful to anyone, but when someone is disrespectful toward me I definitely feel the need to speak my mind.

I have been pulled into a few dramas here over the last few years (3 major ones resulting in the banning of 2 members from 2 of the 3 incidents). It caused me tremendous anxiety. In those few times---I was treated with disrespect (as well as others who had also been in the thread), and in the last incident that person was ultimately banned after being given adequate chances to change his ways---but he didn't.

This is what I try to avoid. The anxiety it causes is horrible for me. So...I try to approach potentially delicate threads with utmost care. I will make my point, but I try to do it in a manner that lets people know that it is my opinion---and everyone is allowed an opinion.

I don't know about there being "rules" for debate, but I get nervous when I post something in PPR too, because I know there's a lot of disrespectful know-it-alls that knit pick arguments apart.

There have been many threads that I've decided not to bother posting in. If there are people posting in a thread who's values about something are radically different from mine, I leave them alone and let them have their own thread.

I sometimes don't post what I was going to say, but I am not really afraid of any of the consequences. It just doesn't seem all that important or necessary to say.
