I can burp. I don't burp a lot, only after a big meal or after having fizzy drinks. They usually make a sound when they come up, which is why I avoid drinking fizzy drink when I'm out in public, sometimes after fizzy drink they can come out louder than expected, no matter how hard I try to make them sound quieter lol. I can't burp on command, but I have never tried doing it because it's silly. I just burp naturally, like I do with sneezing and coughing.

But I have a friend who never burps. She did as a baby, but when she got past bottle-feeding age, she never burped, right up to this day. She does hiccups after she eats or drinks fizzy drinks, and she has said she has done a little burp before (because she had tasted a funny taste in her mouth after a hiccup), but otherwise she doesn't burp. She can just drink as many fizzy drinks as she want and doesn't burp, maybe just does really quiet ones what are hardly nothing, even if she forced them out she'd just hiccup. But she never gets pains either. But she never snores either, even with a blocked nose, so I wonder if her throat is bigger than normal and so any gas that comes out just creeps out quietly without making a sound.

She always does silent farts too. Then again, so do I lol (or is it a young female thing?)

I can burp, maybe even too loudly. I don't remember though if I burped before age 15.

Continueing on the issue has anyone else got a reaaaally numbed gag reflex?

My gag reflex isn't reaaaally numbed, but I had an accident once when something stuck somewhere above my throat (almost in nose) after I vomited and I couldn't get it out. It felt so bad that I got desperate and tried to take out that thing with my fingers. I failed at it, but I discovered that I can put my arm really far in my mouth without feeling anything...

I use to burp as a kid but I haven't in years. I think its gross and don't like it when people belch out loud in public, find it very rude. I don't drink carbonated beverages anymore though so that probably contributes. I don't drink much at all but alcohol has that effect too.

Drink 5 cans of a carbonated beverage in rapid succession...you'll either burp or explode!

I can't burp at will, and I very rarely burp at all, except if I drink too much carbonated beverage.

I'm the opposite. I can burp at will, I burp fairly regularly, & carbonated drinks don't affect me like that at all; eating a lot fast does thou. I was one of those kids who thought burping was very funny & kewl

I eat meals very slow and don't swallow much air, but I still burp afterwards. That's another reason why I am sometimes reluctant to go out to restaurants for meals with family, I always feel a big burp coming after I finish my meal, and try to push it down by swallowing hard, because I don't like to do it loud at the dinner table. Well, it's not loud loud, but people can still hear if they're sitting next to me. I hate people hearing me burp.

If I hold it in it usually comes up later when we've gone home, but then it tastes worst when you've held it in longer. :eew:

When I'm in a situation like that I usually put my hand over my mouth and lower my head so my chin almost touches the top of my chest, and then nobody really hears it come out. If they do, I just say pardon me. Nobody takes any notice then, and they don't think any different of you so theres no need to feel embarrassed. :)

If I hold it in I usually get an indigestion pain and then I can't burp at all. So I sit up straight and press my hand down hard where it hurts, or I rub it a little and it then I finally manage to let go a good belch.
