I hate how rigid the standard of beauty is in the US, especially for women. If you don't look like a photoshopped supermodel - especially if it's due to your weight - someone will eventually make a negative comment about it.

I hate how 98% of all the "reality" shows that come from the US only portray the very extremes of our culture - either the spoiled, filthy rich pseudo-celebrities who all look like cookie-cutter Barbies or the dirt-poor hillbillies who run moonshine and hunt gators in the Louisiana bayou. Note to people in other countries: those types of shows absolutely do not accurately portray what life is like for the vast majority of Americans. Most of us are middle class people who work regular 9 to 5 jobs and live in suburban neighborhoods or apartments.

Overemphasis on sports is just one of my many

I guess, technically, (or stereotypically speaking) there are several cultures in America: hillbilly culture, suburban white culture, ghetto culture, Mexican culture, Asian culture, etc. I've been exposed to many of them, but the absolute worst is the ghetto one because of their anti-intellectual stance and their reliance on guns and machismo over niceness, welfare over employment, etc.

"How are you? [Actually I don't care]."

"Fine [I don't care either]."

Translation:

"I won't attack you."

"Ditto."

From one of my cultures:
The inherent classism constantly pisses me off. Unless your family have money, you are looked down upon to some extent. Someone who is self-made in terms of having money is still looked down upon.

From the other one:
The economic situation and how it has impacted them socially. All the issues surrounding that really tick me off. We even have health treatment denied (a.k.a. our country cannot purchase it) if it was designed or developed in a particular country. Nobody should have to die because some politicians are asshats.

Miso, I'm half Japanese, but never warmed to miso. I know it's good for you and a lot of non-Japanese love it.

I don't like how getting drunk is seen as a pastime. For me, alcohol should be used as a social lubricant, not as medication.
I don't particularly like barbequed steak.
I don't see the appeal of cricket.
I don't like the tendency for people to either demonise Australia or see it as the promised land. Australia is a different country with different problems.

One thing that I can't stand is slang. It's hard enough for me to understand you, but when you add slang for ex. " What up my G! " how am I suppose to know what you mean? :x

from a lebanese australian perspective:
1. the family- they are supposed to be close and they are, you cannot escape them, they make it their buisiness to know your business
2. the close knit community- in lebanon the community is tight knit and in australia it is just small. both have the effect of there being a whole bunch of people intruding in your life and news spreads fast in small communities. there are no secrets.
3. the expectation that you will be subservient to your parents, take over the family business and conduct your life as they see fit
4. rigid social structures- if somebody isnt as wealthy or wealthier than you you can not consort with them let alone be romantically involved.
5. strict gender roles
6. drinking culture
7. from one culture i am supposed to be chaste and in the other i am supposed to be both available and virginal.
8. the sectarianism. oh my god the sectarianism. im not sure you could class that as being a cultural thing though.

I'm half Filipino and half Dutch living in Canada. One thing I don't like from one of my cultures (Filipino) is that when you greet or say goodbye to somebody the younger person is supposed to kiss the older person one kiss on each cheek. It causes my anxiety to go up because half of the time at the family gatherings I don't know half of the people and I'm expected to kiss them.

I don't like the standard culture here how people are supposed to fit the norm which is go through school getting good marks and then going straight to college after and then getting a good 9-5 job after you're done college and moving out to your own place. The you're expected to marry in your mid to late 20's and have a family. Keep working hard and then retire at a certain age. Life is one big rat race. There's so much pressure to live in that cookie cutter perfect life, no wonder so many people have burn-outs and anxiety attacks.

Another thing I don't like about standard Canadian culture and probably most cultures is cliques and name calling. I hate it when people label each other things like "emos", "Gangsters", etc. I absolutely hate it when people use degrading names on each other. I hate the use of the n word for black people. I hate it when women get called names like the s word and the w word. A woman should be able to dress how she wants without people judging her and calling her names while men can do whatever the heck they want and not be judged twice as badly.

I wish people were more open-minded and tolerant and less judgemental on the people in our society in general. The older I get, the more understanding I am to people from all different walks of life.

I absolutely hate it that some men treat women as sex objects.

Wow! In Alabama it's $2.35/hr..

I hate suburban sprawl. It reminds me of ringworm.

I can't even imagine minimum wage being $2.35 here in Ontario but then again everything's more expensive here.

That happens here in Australia as well, there's a debate going on because a woman is big and her kids are as well there's been some nasty coments about it.
It all started because she was in "The Woman's Weekly"
We have the Aussie version of "The Amazing Race" and there's the token "Barbies" on it
We have the Aussie version of Paris Hilton too "Lara Bingle"
