I still see payphones in my area although they are very dirty and they include adult chat up lines.

There still are lots of prepaid phones in my area. Public payphone is another thing. They are going extinct. I had to use one recently because my phone died and none of them worked unfortunately.

Some of them now contain wifi hotspots, giving them a second usage.

A number of phone boxes in the UK are preserved buildings, so removal will be more difficult.
