I don't like it, I find it scary... don't know why, it's probably the fact they're on all fours, this feels very wrong to me and I can't get over it, I can't even watch 2 minutes straight of an episode...

So I take it you aren't watching the LSU game tomorrow? Sacrilege!

(I don't like football either, but everybody else here has it as a religion)

I think what killed it for me was people making fun of me for liking it. I almost wish that MLP hadn't gotten to be so popular, because people seemed to make fun of me for liking it because of the hype surrounding it instead of the fact that it's a kid's show.

I'm sorry people made fun of you for liking it. I'm worried for my son in that regard, as he is highly sensitive, and I'm not about to tell him "you can't like MLP because you're a boy". It was hard enough for him to admit to me that he liked it. But I try to tell him that it's okay to like things that are directed towards girls. He also loves Minecraft and Transformers, so who can make fun of him for that?

I wondered as well if it was an ASD thing when I first came here and saw all the MLP posts, but I recently found out that it's just popular. I found this out when my 16yo daughter was telling me about how most of the kids she knows love it. They don't love it the way kids love it, they just love it. It's a "thing" I guess. There are plenty of bronies (guy fans) as well. They joke about the bronies being gay, and even the bronies themselves joke about it, because that too is just a "thing" and nobody believes it. It's just part of that culture in that crowd she's in. It's never meant mean spiritedly.

Also, then again, being gay isn't a horrible thing to most of the kids in the high school. There are quite a few gay and bi kids who are out and they joke too. It doesn't mean anything with them.

I'd just explain to your son that he should see if other kids mention it and talk about it at school and if there are boys who do, then go for it and hang with them and talk about it some (not constantly though like we tend to sometimes do if we have a strong interest in things) I'd also tell him that if none of the other kids seem to like it or if they talk bad about those who do, then do not mention it. It's not too early to learn to gear your conversation certain ways when around a peer group. If I were to talk about my new obsession with Columbine or my interest in embalming, most people would think I was a freak. So, I don't.

This is a good opportunity for him to start learning to be aware of public opinion and how to deal with it.

I know I watched the show when I was a kid back in the late 80s/early 90s, and I would imagine I liked it, or I wouldn't have watched it, but I don't give two s**ts about it now, and I really don't see the appeal, so I voted indifferent.

Also, there's certainly nothing wrong with liking to watch a show "for kids." I've never seen a cartoon(except maybe "educational" stuff for really little kids, the kinda stuff you see on nick jr.) that didn't have references only adults or older children would understand, so there's nothing wrong with that. Technically there's nothing really wrong with collecting the toys or going to bronycon or really anything bronies do, but I can't say that I don't find some of it extremely odd and at least slightly disturbing. I think when a children's cartoon becomes a sexual obsession, it's time to draw the line though, especially since bronies seem to be common within the autistic community, and we don't need any help being seen as weird. The last thing we need is "oh look, all autistic people are pedophiles too."

Couldn't this have went in the TV, Film and Video forum?

Oh and I answered no. All I have to say is: It's a damn kids show! Why people over the marketing age find this show so appealing is beyond me...

Probably, but MLP is more than just a TV show, so I put it here.

What is it? I have no idea what you're referring to - assuming you don't just mean the toys, which don't appeal to me. No need to answer really. It's nice that so many people enjoy whatever it is. It strikes me that it's harmless. :)

I like it. G4 has a cute Flashgame-esque art style and a good consistency with references which is rare for most cartoons, and G3 is very heart-warming with its tear-jerking morals and relaxing lack of conflict.

I had a toy when I was little but I've never seen the cartoon. I'm a Hello Kitty fan.

I just like cute things, and my little pony fits that category quite well.
