In America, many people have been experiencing 'End-Of-The-World' anxiety since Hostess Bakery announced that no more Twinkies will be made.

Ever.

This isn't a poke at you, JBO. It's just getting on my nerves...how completely immersed people are in the zombie crap.

Really? Let's get to reality people....

Vampires too. What's with that? And the Titanic. Then there are crime shows, too many to mention. I find crime to be depressing, but there are obviously many who find it entertaining. I just don't understand that either.

I'm afraid of doomsday. I'm pessimistic about the world and have had a history of (OCD-related) feelings of imminent disaster. I don't feel that I have the skillset to survive in a "post-apocalyptic" world, so I mainly just worry.

With so much political unrest going on in other countries (esp. the Middle East) and economic downturn, I often worry about the end of first-world civilization. Though my dad and brother both think that the end will be brought about by disease. Which makes sense since our bodies are growing increasingly resistant to antibiotics and it doesn't take much for bacteria and viruses to mutate into something both contagious and deadly, but I digress.

I haven't done much to prepare, because I figure that I'll be screwed anyway due to my dependence on psychiatric medication. Once my medication runs out, I'll die the undignified death of drug withdrawal. I've been on Xanax (among other things) since I was 14 and from what I hear, going off of benzos is worse than going off of heroin.

Good for my mental stability? Definitely. Good for surviving doomsday scenarios? Not so much.

I would'nt say I'm prepping for doomsday. I'm just preparing myself for any eventuallity. You know, the usual stuff; Guns, stockpiled food in bulk, water, medicine and booze for bartering. So, I'm semi-prepared for either job loss or anarachy. Its just a smart thing to do.

No, but my hobbies just sort of naturally dovetail into the whole "prepper" thing. Gunsmithing gives me shooting and mechanical skills, cooking gives me preserved meats and veggies, martial arts give me general mindset and physical fitness stuff, etc. Strangely, I have more of a problem convincing people that I do these things because I like them than out of some political ideology of in preparation for something than anything else.

No one can prepare for "Doomsday", considering that the concept involves complete destruction of everything, including a liveable environment. Thus, no one will survive; not humans, not cockroaches, not bacteria ... no life ... nothing ...

Sweet, blessed oblivion.

Ahhhh. Peace at last!

When is the end of the world supposed to be anyway? Isn't it sometime next month we are all doomed according to some dodgy interpretation of the Mayan calendar?

I have worked with people who were "preppers" before prepping was cool. Some of the preppers I've met (and some of those featured on National Geographic's Doomsday Preppers) are pretty nutty, while others seem to be quite level-headed. When it comes to those who construct "bunkers," I wish they would have spent more time researching them before settling for some crappily-contructed sub-rate structure that will only prove to be a death-trap. It seems that these people have no true concept of the type of damage NBC weapons (or conventional weapons with very large payloads) - they neglect to comprehend that the heat, shockwave, over-/underpressure and radiation from a nuclear device all impart their own damage to a structure and thus the structure needs to be constructed in such a way that it will withstand these factors. A steel tank with a mere 5-foot overburden will simply not work (it will make a nice luxury root cellar, but not much more). I probably shouldn't go on too much about this (I already have in a previous post on zombies).

On a somewhat related note: Anyone going to Armageddon Con?

All that you need to know about the so-called "Mayan Prophesy" can be found Right Here.

As my wardrobe and cupboards and even under the bed is jam-packed with cans of sardines, baked beans, spam, rice, pasta, etc, etc, Just yesterday I bought a load of air tight food storage bins so I can start hording stuff outside on the balcony.

Some economists think total economic collapse is imminent, Tescos shelves would be empty after three days.

Even if the "New World Order" beast of Revelation 13 arrives to save us all, I want to resist the "mark" or chip which you will need in order to buy or sell, it is allowed to reign for 42 months, thats how much food I need to store.

What I've been told is to not worry about it. There's nothing you can do to stop the world from ending, so there's no use worrying about it and making yourself upset. I used to be afraid of this kind of thing, too.

Well I am instructing the resident house mouse to start stocking up on canned stuff. Whoever mentioned Sardines is after my own heart..blush blush. I started to buy some MRE's one time but now I think they have bound to have got too high. I am stocking 10 thousand gallons of water in the cement pond and have plenty of bullets. I think we could prob barter for stuff. Kindly give some input. Thanks.

Oh, the second coming of the Great Depression. I'm trying to save as much money as I can so I'll be able to get by.
