When I have an obsession, it usually is or is connected to a video game.

Top Obsessions: Duke Nukem, Left 4 Dead, Star Wars, Transformers G1

*Middle Obsessions: Parkour, Police, Legend of Zelda*

Bottom Obsessions: Mild interest in Batman, 80's TMNT, Gremlins 1& 2 the movies

* For the middle obsessions, they might be more 'useful' then some of the other stuff I have listed on here, because they actually 'push' me to get out of my comfort zone. Parkour challenges my old fear of being 'too old' for something when on the main forums, I see 40+ year old people start to take up the hobby. I'm 32 (almost 33) and I always thought it was mainly a sport for young people (22 and under.) Plus it's a motivation for me to get a driver's license, since one of the better gyms is in NJ.

*With the Police, it's also a motivation to get a driver's license, because I want to be able to do that job eventually.

* With Legend of Zelda, I am mainly interested in the 'pure aspects' of the game. Essentially Link goes to rescue Zelda from Ganon(dorf), and recover the Triforce while traveling through Hyrule and other places. I mainly like the 80s cartoon with brunette Link and blond Zelda, since I have never played any of the Zelda games (I would like to try Twilight Princess though.)

I've always had an obsession with flashlights. Other obsessions include but are not limited to handheld gadgets (PDAs, small game systems etc)

My dad is obsessed with soccer. He's 50 something and watches soccer (football) every time it's on TV, even when it's on at 3am. If he goes overseas he gets someone else to tape it for him and he plays everyday.

Solid metal objects. Things like cubes or perfect spheres, not literally perfect spheres *snort* the universe would vanish.

Then you will love gauge blocks and precision ball gauges lol.

Even if it was possible to make a perfect cube or sphere the heat, humidity, vibrations and even gravity would warp their dimensions. Ceramic blocks are better at resisting such conditions, but even they warp.

Where I work, we use these small steel spheres to measure ball depth in our parts.

Exactly. The warping of the so called perfect object will happen so rapidly it wouldn't have a chance to be perfect. It'd be warping constantly as you were making it!

Does your obsessions affect you in such a way that it interferes with your life? If they don't, than they may be passions rather than obsessions. I keep seeing threads about obsessions pop up.

Definition of OBSESSION
1: a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling; broadly: compelling motivation <an obsession with profits>
2: something that causes an obsession

Definition of PASSION
5a: ardent affection : love
b: a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept
c: sexual desire
d: an object of desire or deep interest

Merriam Webster

I have an intense passion for any articles on health, old movies and certain episodes like Mister Ed and robots. But they don't affect my life.

On the other hand I have an obsession for backhoe loaders which I will not go into detail, except that they affect my life in a big way and I'm having to try to deal with this the best I can.

So is yours a PASSION or an OBSESSION?

Last year, it was Kamen Rider. Now it's demons. While the major obsession changes yearly, the subcategory changes monthly. Last month, it was the Omen. Now it's the Lesser Key Of Solomon.
