"Prawn" is the word that Brits and Aussies use for the critter Americans call "shrimp". They are the same animal. Or thats my understanding of it.

I'm from south Louisiana & seafood is pretty big there compared to the rest of the country. I liked fried shrimp & fish the best; fish like Catfish & Perch are the most common but there's lots of others I ate that are really good. People I met/knew in Louisiana who travel say they don't like the seafood that's in other states because it's not good & I think they are rite. I moved to Vermont in November to be with my girlfriend & the seafood here is NOT the same. Things on the menus are very different like baked haddock & scallops. I tried fried shrimp from one seafood place & it had no flavor.

I'm in Australia and I think some people here seem to refer to medium to larger-sized (meatier) ones as "prawns" and smaller shelly ones as "shrimps". I could be wrong, but that's the distinction I make between prawns and shrimps.

++++

I have had this squid dish in Thai restaurants. Cooked and cooled squid pieces with coriander leaves, raw onion and hot tangy sauce etc. I can't remember exactly what else was in it, but it seems quite common in Thai restaurants as a side dish. It's extremely tasty.

I definitely love all seafood, shell creatures, fish of any kind. But I never had Louisiana style catfish before, and wondering what it tastes like? Does it have a strong flavor? I am curious about Cajun Creole cuisine and seafood.

You might be right about prawns.

Was gonna mention calamari. Sounds like the Thai do squid atleast as well as the Italians!

I mostly only had Louisiana so I cant make a comparison but we have more spices so adds to the flavor alot & I think the seafood here would taste different own it's own sense it comes from different water

Fish sticks, lots of tartar sauce!
,
Deep fried oysters or scallops, lots of tarter sauce!

Tuna melt!breaded, baked cod, lots of tartar sauce!

Used to be a 'Sizzler', all-you-can-eat steak and lobster place down the street, years ago; I just wanted the lobster tail!

And I like quite a bit else too. Was a late discoverer of sushi, I was always hesitant about the seaweed. But I am a big fan now. I love fish and chips, although I find that I only really care about the fish part. Also shrimp, a Mexican food place near me serves killer Fajitas Camarones. And any sort of seared, pepper-crusted fish steak. :chef:
