Beer is okay. I used to drink nothing but beer, now I socialise less it's more of a rarity.

It sounds like a few posters have sampled beer at is worst. At its best, it's good stuff. Nothing beats a good Kolsch in a German beer garden, for instance (must get more of that stuff).

Beer is great, and anyone who thinks otherwise is (a) one of those ho-mo-sexualists (b) a communist or (c) an atheist and (d) possibly all three.

That is all.

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." (Benjamin Franklin)

It can be an acquired taste. When I was a kid I could hardly even stand the smell of beer. My parents didn't drink, so I didn't really have a chance to try alcoholic beverages until I was in the Navy. At first I only liked screwdrivers and rum 'n' coke. After a year or so I found that light American lagers like MGD were ok. Decades later, I can appreciate the darkest, bitterest beers, the peatiest Scotch whiskies, the most tannic red wines. I wasn't trying to get there, it just happened naturally.

Except very rare cases, children are naturally averse to the taste and smell of traditional beers -- their olfactory and gustatory receptors are predominated by those responsive to sweet things, and the development of receptors responsive to the bitter/sour end of the spectrum only occur later (from memory, just before puberty).

This is why, for instance, young children tend to share a common hatred for some types of vegetable -- swedes, parsnips and Brussels sprouts being the usual examples -- and may (if the relevant receptors are dominant in their makeup) even loathe vegetables altogether, since they are perceived as having a somewhat woody/bitter taste (if you know a kid who won't even eat carrots without smothering them in sugary tomato ketchup, that's why).

This is further proof, in my eyes, that God in His infinite wisdom, has preserved some pleasures exclusively for adulthood alone, such as beer, sex and monster truck rallies.

I started off my drinking with gin then went down to beer during my college days. I've experimented with hard liquors but often got in trouble with them. I now prefer beer which is safer for me.

I had never been much for alcoholic beverages, until I experienced the world of IPA's. I love a double IPA, and the more bitter, the better. My favorite that I have tried, thus far, is "Pliny The Elder", brewed in Northern California, by Russian River Brewery,

Just a thought . . . if anyone on this thread is in the LA or SB area of CA. and has an interest in IPA's, or beer in general, it's always kind of fun to get a group together, to go beer tasting, et al. . .

Oh, I've actually done that. In Köln, at summer. Delicious.

Other than that, regular beer is a nice way to pass the time with friends; otherwise I never drink beer alone. There is an artisanal bear chain here in my city, it's a nice place to go and hang out and they sell a red, fruity beer that tastes good. There is a place in the city my parents live where they sell maracuja beer, I like that one a lot.

Yeah. I've had Labatt Blue. I've been thinking of making an album of beer labels of the beers I've drank but I never got around to it.

Beer is great. So is wine. Mead is great, too. One of my best friends is named "Jack Daniels", and I know a real, live person named "Jose Cuervo". It's all great.

Sexuality, politics, and religion have nothing to do with it.

I think Charity was making a joke.

I personally find both the taste and smell of beer disgusting. My alcohol needs to be in something for it to taste good, like margaritas or White Russians. I did have a raspberry kamikaze that had too much vodka in it and it sadly put me off.

I forgot that I also had Abita & found that to be OK after the 1st couple sips; I think they're from Louisiana which is where I'm from originally so I bet few if any of you are familiar with it. I also had one a couple times that was labeled something like St. Patty's Girl that I liked. Draft beer is the worst. I had it a couple times at special social events like weddings & I could barely drink the 1st half, the 2nd half got alittle better & I debated with myself about getting a 2nd but I did & it wasn't much better. I never heard of half the stuff you guys mentioned. I would be interested in trying 307 Ale if were real. & for those of you who liked Legos you might would like Kegos if it were real too; I cant find the vid on YouTube but I found it on another site & this is that clicky link. & here's 307 Ale song

When I was in college I got introduced to "black & tan." It's basically Guinness stout mixed with a lighter beer (like Harp or Coors) that sat on top of it in a 50-50 distribution.
