Why watch such videos in the first place? I'm very selective with such things and probably on watch a YouTube once a month (if that) but only if the subject matter is very interesting.

I don't. I would read the same information in written form, though.
People keep posting them to make points in discussions, which is why I even know about them in the first place.

Personally I never look at any of the YouTube videos members post. Life is too short. If they can't make their point in few lines of text I'm sure not going to watch an X minute video trying to work out what their point it.

I don't watch them either, but they still irritate me. Just write out your point instead of taking up people's time.
Even more annoying are ones that are an hour or more long.

do people make 5-minute long videos for things like "10 reasons why dogs are great"?

A bullet-point list of the same information would take 1/5 of the time to read.

Rant over.

Slow Talkers?

Fast reader.

Unless is a TV episode, movie or music video.

I mainly use YouTube for music.

same here - I have multiple problems with videos, just being hearing impaired messes a lot up for me.

I try everything in print and only watch either music or TED talks - at least they are not rambling, they usually know something serious and real and new to me.

It's mainly an attention thing for me: I have trouble concentrating on people talking, and my visual attention span is shocking.

The funny thing is, someone could have made a ten minute-long video ranting about this, and you've summed it up into three nice little sentences.

Succinctness is a virtue.
A 10-minute-long video ranting about 5-minute videos would be deliciously ironic, though.

I fully agree with you. I wonder what percentage of (dialogue based) videos are actually watched by other members. One member in particular on this site tends to reply to threads with an embedded video and I've not looked at one yet; so I've no idea what his opinions are.
