We should move this thread to 'Off the Wall' and rename it "We love jk1". :D

Oh, thanks, guy! I love those images.

I think those spiky thorny ones (Kip?s first one and WitchsCat?s one) are in the same group of moths and are often venomous although they are beautiful to look at. That yellow and orange hairy one looks almost like a decoration. That white hairy one looks almost like a mouse. Is Kip?s candy-looking one really a caterpillar? Moomingirl?s first one is the kind that I?d love to have as a pet. Smooth-looking ones tend to be safe to touch. This might put some people off but a firm fresh raspberry feels like a caterpillar. That?s one of the reasons why I like raspberries. What?s Krabo?s pic?

Δρονκ αζ α δορναηλ, Κραβο? -> Dhronk az a dhornail, Kravo? -> Drunk as a ???, Krabo? What word comes where ??? is?

I just realized that I have derailed/hijacked Krabo?s thread. Shall we go back to the discussion of creating a new thread?

Well, I should post some pics, too, before going back on track. Thanks, Moomin, I signed up for imgur for these pics.

These are my sister's plastic caterpillar models. It's surprising that such things are commercially available.

These are my other sister's pet caterpillars from a few years ago. They look very similar but they are different species. Very raspberryish to touch.

Doornail. "I am drunk as a doornail" is the Russian way to say you are drunk, lock stock and barrel.

Donald Sutherland once said it,

"We are both Irish, your dog and I."

I didn't know that caterpillars could be venomous jk1. I am glad you liked our pictures. :D

I didn't know that you could keep them as pets either. I suppose that at some point they will turn into a butterfly or moth and fly away?

I wouldn't worry about derailing the thread. It happens all the time around here. But I think we've proved for you, that if you want pictures of caterpillars, people will come and post. 8)

^Oh, I love that! They look like green and yellow mini dinosaurs. So cute and beautiful! Look at their tails! They have short spikes on their heads and tails, too.

Yes, some caterpillars can be venomous though I don?t think they could kill us. Their spikes and hairs could cause skin irritation and pain. It?s their defense mechanism against predators. So when you see an unfamiliar caterpillar, you had better not touch it, though I don?t think anyone would want to. I hear some even let the wind blow their hairs away and cause skin irritation/allergy to whoever happens to be around.

Caterpillars are just short-term pets, only a few months. Yes, they eventually fly away, if successful. My sisters were looking for the squeaky caterpillars from spring to summer this year but they had no luck.

You should ask jk1, he seems to be our resident caterpillar expert. :)

I don't think that was quite what he had in mind.

Here's a short article that agrees with jk1 about the fluffy caterpillars:
