Have you folks forgotten the diagnostic criteria for Aspergers? Barney and Big Bird show no AS symptoms. Big Bird is too damn friendly with strangers to be on the spectrum. Barney grins all the time and has eye contact with everyone. They're both just gay alright! The whole Sesame Street gang is queer. Burt and Ernie have had it going on for years. The Teletubbies are just a foursome of queer boys on crack; they aren't autistic either.

Now the Doozers show signs of Aspergers. They live in nerd colonies. They do not like to socialize; they prefer to build, build, build. Even though they live in colonies they do not communicate much with one another other than someone saying "Lunch time" or "Move the beam over to the left a little".

Bob the Builder could also be on the spectrum. Patrick the Starfish is low spectrum. Sandy the chipmunk would be your typical female Aspie. Lucy Van Pelt is also probably an Aspie.

Barney reminds me of one of those relentlessly friendly exponents of positive thinking. I am a very positive person, but don't like the whole motivational speaking movement or the self-help book trend. Too gushy and over friendly for me. I think all of those children's characters are annoying.

I cite Roger Bannister as an example of someone with AS who has succeeded. He is intelligent, determined and overcame great odds to succeed both in athletics and medicine. He did what was considered impossible. He charted his own course in life, which engendered the scorn of the sportswriters on Fleet Street, many of whom were not at all athletic and smoked and drank heavily. One internet site said that Roger Bannister overcame childhood paralysis. That was never substantiated in any biography I've read about him, but if it's true, it only adds to his reputation as a man able to overcome great odds. This is true motivation for me. Roger Bannister's life story is a far greater motivator for me than any motivational speaker.

Sorry, should have put a sarcasm alert.

What about Robyn Williams or Pierce Anthony. Or the Poem Aurthor who wrote "Where The Sidewalk Ends" (He's dead now, but still one of my favorite.

I reckon Barney just as ODHS. (Officially a Dick Head... um... Syndrome.)

Why in the hell would Barney be an aspie??? He doesn't even act aspie. Look how social he is. Oh I hate Barney anyway so how would I know what he is like now. How do I know he hasn't changed over the years. Maybe his character has changed.

Barney sings about loving people and hugging them. Those are definitely not Aspie traits.

What about Rosie O'Donnell? Do you think she's an aspie?

No, she's just a dyke. Just because someone stands out as different doesn't mean they have Aspergers. Rosie is way too social and jokes too much to be Aspie.

my GSP dog (b***h really) is an aspie.

  • likes the same food all the time
  • doesn't like strangers
  • doesn't like to play with other dogs
  • obessess about things (balls, walks, me)
  • doesn't vocalise much, and then in a monotone
  • very intelligent (for a dog)
  • can stand still (or nearly - on point) and watch birds for ages (birds are another obsession)
  • high pain threshhold (doesn't notice if she cuts herself in the field)
  • stims (wags tail) a lot

... need I go on?

My Ladrador is not. He is very friendly to everyone.

He's also happy all the time. From what I read on this site, very few aspies are like that.

I think Beck (the musician) might. Everyone knows he's, uh, "unique", but I think he shows AS tendencies. He's completely obsessed with music (he plays like 10+ instruments), and he has said himself that he has trouble with dating and stuff like that. He said he's only had like two girlfriends.

Watching interviews with him, he seems like he would be the type of person who might not be too good at social situations and handle them somewhat awkwardly. I found a couple interviews on YouTube... Look how he reacts to the phone ringing in the first one. I can't really describe it, but it doesn't seem normal. It made me crack up when I watched it.
