Turtles are not legally allowed to be sold as pets in Nova Scotia. :( Maybe because you can get salmonella from them, but you can get salmonella from eggs and chicken and even other reptiles that are kept as pets here so I don't really know.

^ Same **** here, people need special permit, which is hard to get, in order to legally own reptilian pets. It is estimated there are about 100 000 illegal pets in Norway, poor animals that don't have the right to vet care. I hate that law with a vengeance. It's the number one reason why I hate my homeland (the official Norway).

Let's talk about nicer things. More turtles needed here!

If you place your hands on the top of their shell, it allows them to fully feel your hands and be comforted by them!

Yay, finally a new post in this thread!

I would hand-feed my turtles things like fish, shrimps etc. It was so nice to have that connection! Just be careful because they're very eager and can accidentally bite your finger.

My little turtle's 9th birthday is coming up in a week and a half. I always buy her some new turtle thing. This year she's getting a pandora bracelet with a sea turtle charm covered in cubic zirconia + a little pink heart clip charm designed to not less this one slip off the bracelet when it's open. (pink is her favourite colour for everything.)

Yep, she's one spoiled little turtle! But, she's worth it & deserves it. :)

I started feeding my turtles less ash-based foods and they seemed to like it. Occasionally, I go to the pet store and get them minnows to chase. :) They enjoy their company very much.

Today is my little turtle's ninth birthday. I'm going to see her this evening after work. She's getting that Pandora bracelet & charms I posted above, and a ~6" long toy car.. a 1953 pink Cadillac - because she <3's everything pink. :)

She's seen real turtles, of course, but every once in a while I think maybe someday I'll take her to see REAL turtles - like to some tropical place to swim with sea turtles, or to some place I vaguely remember seeing on the news where people go to help endangered freshly hatched baby sea turtles cross the beach to safety in the ocean w/o getting eaten by predators along the way. Like her mom, she's an animal lover for sure and I think she'd really enjoy that. Bonus if we can go somewhere and do both at the same time! Or perhaps bonus if it means TWO vacations. :P

^ I would love to go on a volunteer vacation like that. There are several organizations that organize turtle volunteer vacations, so if you can afford it, you should follow that wonderful dream. :)

I have two turtles, a 10+ year old Midland Painted turtle and a red eared slider about 6. They have an outdoor pond for when the weather is permitting and an indoor tank I built with a ramp and door to allow the turtles free roam in the livingroom occasionally. Tina, the oldest, is very personable- loves to have her chin rubbed, plays ball with a ping pong ball, & watches television when she gets her roaming time.
Scooter the red eared slider, however, isn't as human friendly. While Tina likes being touched... Scooter bites. When he does come out of the tank he'll climb things for a while before going back to the tank & hides under the fake log.

I don't have a pet one but love it when I see box turtles in the yard.I stop to move them off the road if it's safe to do so.I had a snapper move into my Lilly pond,he was there for several years then I suppose he moved down to the river when he out grew my little pond.We nicknamed him Snappy Tom.

I love turtles. They're slow and cute like Sgt. Schultz.
