Hm, I wonder what? Perhaps the fact the ball can go fifty feet up in the sky and impact upon any surface?

Is it the sound of that impact or just the idea of it?

Just the act of it. It's horrible, like a beating.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. In what way is people playing football like a beating? Is it in some sensory way, or some conceptual way? Something else?

Is it the violence of the game?

Sure, it's everything... generally, I don't see how anyone wouldn't be annoyed if a ball repeatedly hit their metal gates just a meter away from their pillowcase.

Do the balls belong to them?

If they do I would poke them with a tac or a knife to deflate it, then discard it. I had a similar problem in my class, a certain group of pricks were throwing a football at me so I threw it in the garbage. They also were whipping a ping-pong ball around the room so I took it and threw it in the garbage.

If they say that you owe them money for destroyed their property tell them "if you had a gun to my head, would I have to pay if I threw it in the garbage?" because they're essentially using it as a weapon.

Rudin, interesting logic but I fear that if I go out there with a knife they won't think it's just about the ball... so, I'd rather do it later if possible... although if it happens again it's practically useless, as another group is just going to replace them...

If they are just playing, they are not on your property and they are not damaging anything then I'd say let them play.

I'd say gates a meter away from my bedroom is part of my property.

Footballers are known to be a bit of a scrappy bunch every now and again. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them gives you a couple of shots for stealing their ball. I know I would - and I'm not a footballer or a fighter.

What gives you the right to stop people from having fun and playing sports in a public place? :? Your campaign against this is absurd. No wonder the police don't come when you call.. you're the boy who cried wolf. The police are attending actual emergencies and police issues.

If you can't handle the sound of soccer balls, then get earplugs or better insulate your place or buy a white noise generator etc etc. If nothing else works, Move. It's not everyone else' problem that you have an issue with the sounds of others having fun outside.

Goldfish, as usual you have not a shred of empathy. Who said the police don't come at all? They are - they've come about twenty times during the last month, thus I'm in the right about this, surely, although I pity them as they can do little if the kids are simply replaced by another group and can't do anything permanent. They're getting frustrated along with myself. I'd move if only it was so simple, but it must be in your unsympathetic mind, just as words are easy to say when one isn't in the exact same situation. Try not to comment on every thread of mine with hostility, really. I can counter-argue every last bit of what you say, at any rate.

At what times of the day or night are they playing football against the metal gate? I can understand it would be annoying at night or early morning, but few people are sleeping during the afternoon. Isn't there a nearby park they can play?

Instead of deflating the confiscated balls you could give them to charity later.

On whose property is the metal gate: does it belong to your block? If so, could you request the management to put up a "no ball games" sign?

The problem is that the council had the brilliant idea to turn this area into a park in itself, so technically it seems it's not legal to put up a sign and perfectly fine for balls to fly at all angles. The problem isn't time... a window can be smashed at any time. If my windows are smashed so are the £400 blinds that the landlord installed themselves. Not to mention who knows what else inside the flat if it manages to penetrate.

Fortunately you wouldn't be liable if someone breaks them with a ball from outside. The landlord would be able to claim from his insurers. I'd say it isn't very likely though as footballs are fairly soft and don't reach the speed of a tennis or cricket ball. Cricket balls are much more likely to break a window as they are so hard..

Maybe the landlord could be persuaded to install a steel grille (burglar bars) on the outside of the windows if aware of the problem. He would be likely to want to protect the windows if he went to such expense.

As much as I hate the parasitic concept of a landlord I don't think they or myself should bear the burden when these uncaring people all over decide to emigrate from who knows where just to play in front of my bedroom. If even their parents couldn't give a damn then clearly I'm not at fault for anything here and no one can possibly say I'M the one somehow causing a discomfort to their hedonistic little imps.

I just hate people, especially ones as completely selfish as goldfish up there...

Excuse me? :?

I'm not selfish. To the contrary I'm rather utilitarian & I think the greatest good for the greatest number of people in this situation is to allow people to play their football, have fun, get some exercise etc.

It's YOU who's selfish in thinking that everyone else should stop doing their thing because you don't like it. Further, your dislike is based on the irrational fear that your landlords blinds are going to be damaged by a soccer ball breaking through your window. Very highly unlikely. I have never once heard of a soccer ball breaking a window. Ever. Baseballs/softballs/golf balls, yes, but a soccer ball? Extremely unlikely. Relax and let the kids play in the park - it's far better for them than video games or getting up to no good.

A bit off topic, but if you want to attack me I'm going to defend myself: Further, if I were a selfish person there isn't a snowball's chance in hell I'd have put a couple hundred volunteer hours into planning & promoting this fundraiser party to benefit gay homeless kids: https://www.facebook.com/events/466972076796237/

Next time you want to insult me or try to cut me down, please have a valid point.
