I think this sums it up pretty nicely.

Somebody beat me to posting the Cracked video. Sums it up very well. Even here in Canada every retailers has jumped on the Black Friday bandwagon. Still not the insanity we see in the States but it's still so ridiculous. I'm going shopping soon but not this Friday!

On Black Friday I sit at home and watch QVC! Then I can't wait until Cyber Monday! I never have to leave the house...... or my jammies! (The way life should be  )

I avoid brick-n-mortar stores as much as possible the other 364/5 days of the year and when I do have to go, I try to schedule my trips so the stores/malls/parking lots are as empty as possible. For all that is good and beautiful, why would I subject myself to the most crowded, violent, loud, extreme sensory overload shopping day of the year?

I'd rather strip naked in front of strangers, roll in honey and lie down on a fire ant hill. While listening to the Wham! Christmas song, looped. And looking at pictures of round holes in skin (I'm trypophobic)...

I certainly wouldn't go to any large stores, I wouldn't be entirely against checking out smaller shops like record stores and head shops on that day, since some of them have good deals on that day.

Awesome posts, everyone!

What greedy shoppers don't realise is IF THEY COMPLEATLY BOYCOTTED BLACK FRIDAY, THEY WOULD ENJOY MUCH BETTER DEALS LATER AS THIS WOULD SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF RETAILERS INTO LOWERING PRICES MORE OUT OF FEAR OF A BLEAK SEASON!

This time I'm actually looking forward to our forecasted cold and snowy Thanksgiving and day after, hoping it forces the greedy grabbers to stay the hell home and causes panic with local big-box stores to where they have to drop prices more.
(I'm just not looking forward to the likely treacherous drive home from work Th. nite)

I was going to say that it referred to the black eyes from fights between shoppers, but it seems that the UK already has a black eye Friday right before Christmas!

Better to shop before the holiday and beat the madness.

My shopping is done, I can't understand why people are using up one of their annual leave days to travel to the busiest places possible, to stand in queues for the day. I wont shop at a busy time Monday-Friday, I never shop at weekends.

It's repulsive, but all the stores that do it I boycott anyway because of workfare.

People can be pretty bad at jumble / car boot sales as well.

I'm not much of a shopper anyways & don't care for any of the deals. I worked at WalMart on Thanxgiving night two years & it got so crowded in the morning me & others cleaning the floors had to leave early.

True it would scare retailers to do better, but the question remains... how long will it take before customers realize that?

I'm planning to be somewhere all of the 'bargain shoppers' are not. While they're throwing elbows and getting themselves arrested for assault, I'll be enjoying a relatively unpopulated scenic area (beach, state park, etc).

I *love* Black Friday because I know where the crowds will be (so I can be happily elsewhere) :)
