if they can send a man to the GD moon, they oughta be able to come up with something better than an IV in terms of painfully poking holes in people.

When was the last time someone actually landed on the moon? It's 2016 and we haven't even been to Mars.

Yep. Once when I had pneumonia last year. That was my first IV ever. I'm better at giving than receiving!

the only thing that made extended-use IVs tolerable for me was in that they were the lesser of two evils, i.e., instead of having to get a shot in the butt every few hours, they just put the happy juice in through my IV. so if they infiltrated or whatever, I was ok with it :hic:

The dengue fever thing has now got me worried. I guess I won't go out at all this summer. :(

Dengue fever doesn't exist in Canada, so I wouldn't worry about catching that.

@ lost on earth - you can get mosquito netting jacket and pants and hood etc. from Canadian Tire and maybe hunting stores. Don't ruin your summer! I have a battery-operated mosquito scrammer which they say doesn't work but it does.

re IVs - funny you should ask. I had one yesterday and the night before. Fell and had a concussion. I'm inclined to exaggerate the size of the bump on my head the same way fishermen exaggerate the size of the fish. The ambulance guy said it was huge, the size of an orange. Hah! It was huge, the size of a grapefruit.

They didn't give me IV until they were finished scanning my brain - no blood, okay. What was in my IV? Painkiller I didn't recognize the name but it worked. I asked for Gravol and fell asleep so the nurse waited till I woke up! Yes, you can wake me for symptomatic relief!

And I had a blood transfusion after surgery a few years ago.

None of my IVs hurt, except for that nuisance needle inside my elbow.

Other than travelers returning from Zika infested areas, no it isn't in Canada(save for the few infected travelers possibly passing it on as a sexually transmitted disease). I fear tics that carry Lyme disease more than any mosquito or any other insect borne disease. It is really difficult to get diagnosed because of a lack of training, research and awareness of the disease, and even worse, most doctors have no idea how to treat it. Canada actually lacks the necessary testing to diagnose certain strains of the disease which I find really disturbing. I make sure to check for tics upon returning from any outdoors green space.

sometime in the early 70s. i suppose the country decided we needed to focus on issues on earth, what with the cold war raging and all.

i had an IV with "cold spray" used on me when my wisdom teeth were removed from my head, back in 2014.

was the cold spray used at the IV site? if so, did it work as designed? [IOW did the cold spray make it hurt less]
