Yes, I've grown to like it.

I hate the name I was given with a passion which is why I changed it. I love my new name though.

Same here. I hated the name I was born with and never felt like it fit me, so I am in the process of legally changing it and I think my new name is beautiful

You guys are lucky. I've been wanting to change for so long, and it won't happen.

^^ That's kind of you, thank. Here we can't change easily. It's a judge that decides whether your "case" is of "legitimate interest". Most changes are refused. And I didn't even ask a real change, I asked for the name I used (privately) for a long time to be added. It's supposed to be of legitimate interest but didn't work. If you use such a name illegally, you can pay lots of money or go to jail. However those you could change used their names illegally and weren't punished. Some who were allowed to change did so on a "whim". Not what I call justice. That depends on what judge you fall, even if you present a valid case. There's no real law.

That is NOT right. Where I live, one can call themselves whatever they like whether or not they legally change names as long as there is no intention to deliberately defraud. And (within reasonable guidelines) one can change their name to whatever they wish, be it a 'sensible' name like 'Edward' or 'Lisa' to something totally silly such as 'Parkbench' or 'Headphones O'Reilly'.

Nobody has the right to dictate how a person wishes to name themselves.

I agree that only crime/fraud should be a legal reason. Even a weird name should be tolerated, after all who's to say? It's a judgement of values, nothing like just(ice), again.
I even did "petitioning", although we don't do that here, from people who know/knew me for a long time.

A "normal" name. As for fraud, never been bribed myself, that is an institutional privilege. All that is pure hypocrisy, misplaced tradionalism for an old country yet still very capitalist.

Also, you need a lawyer here. So much for us mere mortals. It is very strict in francophone countries: France, Belgium, and French Canada it seems.

No, I don't like my name. I'm called Sarah. It's too feminine, has a religious connection, doesn't suit me. Also, I find it difficult to say clearly and often have to repeat myself until people get it. The whole how to pronounce it thing bothers me too, as in Sa-ra or Seh-rah. Either way I don't like it but can't find a nick name I prefer. I'd like to change it but would offend my family and it's just a name so not that important.

My full name is unusual. People made fun of it so I "Americanized" and simplified it. I've since went back to my original name because it's unique.

Leaving aside crazy people who choose crazy names, that's almost impossible! When you name them you can't tell what they're going to be like, you know

I changed both my names, the first one because I didn't like it and the last one because I didn't want to be associated in any way with my biological family.

A child is one thing I will never have. But, as Bender said, you have no way of knowing whether or not your child will like the name bestowed upon it.

My name is not a ridiculous name as such. Many women (including famous ones) have borne it and it was extremely popular at the time of my birth. However, I have never really liked it and it doesn't suit me. Since 1981, I have been using the forename of my favourite female vocalist.

I know what we mean. I changed my name from "Alicia" to "Allie", the fact that I don't like my name bothers my dad quite a bit, but my mom understands and agrees with me that Alicia doesn't suit me that well. My dad still calls me "Allie" though. Funny thing is, he didn't like his name as a child so goes by his middle name. He says he likes his first name now, but can't change it back easily because everyone already knows him by his middle name. Because I was going to a nickname that was related to my full name, most people didn't have trouble with the transition. One friend and my boss have the most trouble with it.
