I remember it as the year Canada started circulation of it's $2 coin called the "toonie". I also went with my family to visit Branson, Missouri for a family vacation.

Honestly don't remember anything from '96 because I was wasn't born until the end of that year. Even the early 2000s are a blur for me

That was the year when my family took a big trip across the USA that summer and we picked my dad up at an airport somewhere in Colorado I think and he gave me my birthday present and it was that PollyVille mansion. We also went to our family reunion on my mom's side and we met my uncles in Flagstaff, AZ where they lived and that was where our RV also broke down when we were heading back home so we stayed there again at their house and they took us miniature golfing as some indoor place.

Matilda also came out that year and we saw it in theaters and Miss Trunchbull gave me nightmares and I couldn't believe this was even a children's movie when they have someone who is so mean and abuses children that was so graphic and how she is capable of killing and the movie implied she killed Magnus and she was attempting to kill again when Miss Honey and Matilda were trying to escape "her" home. Then I saw the book at the bookfair and got the book and read it.

I also got obsessed with 101 Dalmatians when I saw it in theaters and then it became my favorite movie and I also got into London.

I also entered 5th grade that year and my teacher liked playing music all the time in his class and we also got a bunch of computers in his class so it was like we had our own computer lab. That was the only year when I didn't attend the special ed classroom.

I remember the movies Space Jam, Larger Than Life, High School High, Jingle All the Way, Cable Guy, saw all those in theaters. I hated the movie Michael because I was so bored during it I fell asleep like I did with Coneheads in 1993.

We didn't have The Spice Girls yet in our country until 1997 when their first song was finally released in our country.

I remember the summer Olympics and my parents left us in Florida with my grandparents while they went to Atlanta and met one of my dad's friends there and saw one of the games together. They really wanted to go but didn't want to take us because last time they took us, it was at a track meet in Eugene and we were so board my brothers got into trouble and I just wandered off so they didn't want to take us to The Olympics and have us be board again so they left us with my mom's parents where they were staying for a vacation in Florida while they had their fun for a week. My grandparents saw The Olympics on TV, just gymnastics and they gave us a bedtime every night despite it being summer. I remember the condo we were staying at had a huge game room with a pool table and video games and the roof in there would leak so they had a bucket under there to catch the dripping whenever it would rain outside. We also got a free car wash because it rained so hard outside my grandparents wanted to wash their car but instead some huge truck drove by spraying a bunch of water on the car and it was clean so my grandfather said "We don't need to wash the car anymore." We also looked at some school house that was a museum but it was closed so we looked in the windows instead seeing the inside so we had free admission after all.

We also opened three presents on Christmas Eve.

1996 was the year that my ten year old velomobile prototype won the world championship in its class and my pedal boat won its race at the same event. Unfortunately, this happened in Las Vegas, so when I was staying up most of the night talking shop, my wife assumed I was enjoying 'Vegas, and made me rush home. Instead of watching my career take off, I watched my marriage crumble and burn. I still have not recovered.
