I am going to relive my teenage years in VR
Well, I bought a hyper-cheap VR headset from Amazon. It arrived yesterday morning and although isn't anywhere near capable of what I will need to "go back", it is good fun and well worth the tiny financial outlay.
I needed to know if these devices were compatible with my far sightedness and my slight strabismus ( squint ), so this was a cheap way of achieving that objective.
Luckily I have no problems with these headsets and I can see the 3D without seeing two of everything, which I was concerned about because of the aforementioned strabismus, and neither do I have a problem with the fact that the screen is so close to my eyes, which I thought would be affected by my far sightedness. Brilliant!
So far I've landed on the moon in 1971 and driven around the moonscape in the Lunar Rover, as well as ridden on a few roller coasters and attempted to teleport around a futuristic world, which I was unable to manage without a cheap Bluetooth remote. I will purchase the remote on Monday, they are really cheap.
If you already own a smartphone ( you slot your phone into the headset ) and you fancy dipping your toe in at the more basic end of VR, then I highly recommend one of these cheap devices.
Lots of free VR games & apps are available from places like Google Play.
The high-end hardware is going to have to get much cheaper before I can afford it.
