It is a good thing that I never had to, though. Maybe that had something to do with being a good parent.
If you're calling the cops on a child because they've gotten the best of you, you shouldn't be trusted with kids in the first place. Besides, if the kid is under 12 there's no point because the cops can't do anything to them and the kid probably knows it.

The main difference between destroying a child's electronics as opposed to taking them away for a long time is that the parent can feel a release of anger & the child might get scared from witnessing that.
Taking away a child's electronics for a few months may have the same effect for the gadgets & environment as breaking them. Some electronics are obsolete as soon as they are released. Apple releases a new iPhone every couple months, it sure seems like that anyways. Some people always have the latest phone or other gadget as soon as it is released. Plenty of electronic stuff gets tossed with the garbage & ends up in dumps/landfills because somebody upgraded to something newer & better even thou the device itself still worked, it just did not work with the newest software & gadgets that were just released. Plenty of electronic stuff is designed to easily break & need replacing instead of being fixed or upgraded. The companies want people to have to regularly buy whole new devices instead of the users being able to repair & upgrade things themselves & make them last a long time. OK enough of that rant.
I can understand why parents would desire to takeaway or destroy their child's electronics but one very important thing for parents to keep in mind is that electronics are practically essential for being able to function in the Western world & this pandemic increased our reliance on them even more. Every good parent should want their kids to grow up being able to be independent if possible. Electronics are essential for independent living. It is very difficult to find a job in Western society without the use of the internet. Most jobs have some aspect that involves the use of a computer or some other electronic device. Lots of people are working from home rite now cuz of the pandemic & all those work from home jobs require the use of a computer/laptop/tablet device &/or using a cellphone. Being able to find a job is almost impossible without the use of the internet. LOTS find out about jobs online & submit apps & resumes online. LOTS would agree that education is very important weather that is higher education like college or elementary school learning. Access to the internet is very important for education. Lots of schools required students to participate in online learning 1ce the pandemic started getting bad & lots of schools are still doing online learning. Even before the pandemic plenty of kids used the net at home for some aspect related to their schooling. There has been plenty of talk lately about the importance of social distancing, & having the internet & phone communication is very important for that. It is good for parents to set limits & rules about their kids use of electronics but I think getting mad & trying to keep the kids away from various technology is putting their kids at a disadvantage for adulthood.

While parents can have very good reasons to restrict & monitor their kids electronic use, plenty of kids can find ways around it. If a boy cant have an xBox cuz he'd play games like COD & GTA, he could go to friends houses to play those games. If a boy's internet activity is monitored or restrcted so he won't access porn, he could figure out how to get around the parental blocking software or his friends could give him porn. If a girl cant have a phone or net access cuz she's getting involved with adult pervs she's meeting online, one of the pervs could send her a phone or she could go to a store & buy herself a prepaid phone & card for unlimited text & data. I think it's better for parents to teach their kids about being responsible instead of blaming the technology & smasing or tossing it. Parents should take an active involvement in their kids lives like really talk to their kids & spend quality time with em. Technology can be a tool to help the parents do that. For example parents can monitor the GPS on their kids cellphones & regurarly check in with each other when they are not together like if the kid went to a friends house after school or if the parent has to stay late at work. Parents should not ignore their kids when they are home & then get mad & try to punish their kids by taking things away or breaking things. In the 90s there was a bit.of controversy about kids spending too much time in front of the TV. Some parents did not spend much time with their kids & instead gave their kids access to most every channel & the kids had most every video-game & movie that came out. When the kid screwed-up at school by not doing their homework, failing tests, or some minorish behavioral problems, some parents would take the TV away even thou those parents never made time to help their kids with their homework, help their kids study for tests, or showed much interest & concern for their kids school day. Some parents basically expected their kids to raise themselves & then took it out on the kids &,or TV when the parent themselves failed.

My parents never monitored my internet use from the time I was 8-9, even though they'd freak out if I looked at something I "shouldn't" have. I was exposed to porn and talked to teenagers/adults (because there are like, no kids on chat sites obviously and I had no friends to talk to irl lmao) when I was 11, and when they found out they screamed at me for days and took away my computer access. I thought that reaction was stupid then and I still think it's stupid, not because those things weren't inappropriate, but because my usage was never checked and they just blindly trusted me to not do "bad" things, and when they found out, I in fact, like every child knew how to access "bad things" online they blew a gasket.

I think the Bad Religion song 21st Century Digital Boy is relevant here despite the song being like 30 years old
I can't believe it
The way you look sometimes
Like a trampled flag on a city street
Oh yeah
And I don't want it
The things you're offering me
Symbolized barcode, quick I.D
Oh yeah
'Cause I'm a twenty-first century digital boy
I don't know how to live but I got a lot of toys
My daddy's a lazy middle-class intellectual
My mommy's on Valium, so ineffectual
Ain't life a mystery, yeah?
I can't explain it
The things you're're saying to me
It's going yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh yeah
'Cause I'm a twenty-first century digital boy
I don't know how to read but I got a lot of toys
My daddy's a lazy middle-class intellectual
My mommy's on Valium, so ineffectual, oh
Ain't life a mystery, yeah?
Tried to tell you about no control
But now I really don't know
And then you told me how bad you had to suffer
Is that really all you have to offer?
'Cause I'm a twenty-first century digital boy
I don't know how to live but I got a lot of toys
My daddy's a lazy middle-class intellectual
My mommy's on Valium, so ineffectual, yeah
(Twenty-first century digital boy) cats, sports, iron claw
(Twenty-first century digital boy) neurosurgeon screams for more
(Twenty-first century digital boy) innocents raped with napalm fire
(Twenty-first century digital boy) everything I want, I really need
Ain't life a mystery, yeah?

True it is good to know actions have consequences, but at the same time also best not to teach them that the way to react to anger is to destroy things in a fit of rage. How are children to learn to become adults if their parents act like children throwing a fit?
Also it encourages wasteful behavior...electronics are useful and many of the materials in them aren't exactly very renewable. Smashing such things just encourages the idea that everything is disposable and at this point we need to stop taking the planet and its resources for granted, Not teach children to take it for granted.
