I feel, as white people, that we have (as a group) more advantages than black people in the US society.

There remains de facto racism against black people, and other "minorities." We haven't had de jure racism for at least 40 years.

However, I do not believe in the concept of "white privilege" as something which should be incorporated into how we assess anything. I also don't believe in reparations for people whose ancestors were slaves.

I'm on the fence on "affirmative action." I take it on a case-by-case basis.

But I do hope that, very soon, there will not be a need for "affirmative action."

This video is a quick and interesting analysis of some of the symbolism and meaning in the video and lyrics of the song:

"White privilege" oh may God damn that nonsense term and the rest of the SJW crap already for goodness sake! Why must everyone keep trying to revive racism? Just let it die! Nobody should care.

Because racism hasn't died. But a lot of unarmed black men have. People should care about that.

Racism has just changed form & there's statistical evidence to prove it in many areas of life (legal/incarceration, jobs, education, finances, opportunities etc) - and not just in the USA, here in Canada, too.

Ha

You don't know the half of it,

The gov hates based on race, color, birthplace, language, sex, religion, political beliefs and disability all while claiming they don't discriminate against race, color, birthplace, language, sex, religion, political beliefs and disability.

Yep. And it's ever more blatant with top down examples set by Trump himself - most recently with suggesting that those who kneel during the anthem at NFL games should maybe not be in the country.

And that's why art like this that points out the hypocrisy and systemic oppression of POC by white America will continue to THRIVE.

Check out the Youtube video I posted, it explains the lyrics and themes pretty clearly (and succinctly--it's only 5 minutes or so long.) There is a whole lot of symbolism in all of the choices he made in that video, including what he's wearing and how he dances and the facial expressions he makes. It's all very deliberate and intentional. It's meant to be a little uncomfortable and to provoke discussion, I think.

If you just don't like it then you just don't like it, but if you'd like to understand it better the explanation is there.

Not everyone likes a particular piece of art, whether it's music or the visuals in the video.. especially controversial art. But it may just be as simple as they posted: they find the beat annoying. That's them and their ear/brain - there's no changing that. I like plenty of songs others dislike and vice versa.

No problem. :)

I wasn't quite sure what to think of it when I first saw the video. Admittedly, I am not black nor American, so some of the references were going to be lost on me anyway. But it piqued my curiosity and then Youtube suggested that analysis of it and when I saw the breakdown of all the imagery and the lyrics in the song it made a lot more sense to me. Now I really appreciate it because it's accomplished what I think he wanted when he made it, which was to open up a discussion. That's what good art is supposed to be for.

I'm aware of that, that's why I said if you just don't like it then you just don't like it. But if you want to understand what he's trying to say, here's an explanation of the symbolism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_LIP7qguYw&t=1s

In a nutshell; to keep the democratic vote. But with more blacks bootstrapping themselves up and leaving the hood for the suburbs, the left is becoming more and more desperate.

Mmhmm, like I said earlier, after I saw that explanation I had an even greater respect & appreciation for the song and video. I just showed both to my mother, too. I think this is an important & valuable piece of pop culture art and should be widely seen and heard - along with the explanation video.
