I get annoyed when content on YouTube is monetized, and there's no way I'd pay for any of it.

I'm pretty sure stuff like that is offered legally, like how Amazon allows you to "rent" movies. I'd rather just pay a flat fee, like with Netflix or Hulu. $5 to rent a movie? I could buy the DVD for that price, or I could see if Family Video has it.

But I know a lot of people find themselves in situations where friends are over, and everyone wants to watch something specific...otherwise Pay Per View and On Demand wouldn't be so popular.

I've seen quite a lot of rare, interesting stuff like that appear briefly then disappear within weeks or even days. A dvd of one of the films I downloaded a few months ago was being offered at £200 on Amazon recently.

I have a torrent site for that B) Although lately, they've changed some rules, and they're trying to cater specifically to OOP TV shows, and the only movies they're allowing are Star Wars.

I know all too well what you're talking about. My special interests tend to be ridiculously obscure and narrow, and with little money to spare for them, I have to turn to the internet. Have you ever researched how to use Google effectively? I gave up using the internet during one Lent, except for research purposes. I ended up learning a lot about how to search for very specific things. I've also heard about something called "Google scholar" that supposedly filters out all the internet "fluff." I've never used it myself but it might suit your needs. I use the "books" filter on Google search, as well as the archives of newspapers and academic journals (which are often free to access), and the Archive website.
