I would kinda like a caiman which is kinda like a miniature alligator or miniature crocodile. I also would kinda like a snapping turtle.

You cannot have a dragon as a pet because they decide if they want you as a pet.

Humans are generally not that well tolerated unless a dragon chooses to imprint.

If they are the kind who accept riders then that is a whole different ball game.

I suggest you read up on the matter first, starting with His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novak. One of the few educational books I can recommend.

A Scarlet Macaw.

Major drawbacks; the screeching and the possibility of it outliving me.

I wanted dinosaurs when I was a kid. So I needed both a time machine and way more space  That fits not very practical.

I kind of wonder what people here by impractical, because it sounds like anything other than a dog or a cat.

To me, impractical would be any animal that is:

- Too large to keep inside a human house (except for horses).

- Too dangerous.

- An endangered species.

- Sea Monkeys. Although I once saw someone on YouTube feeding some living brine shrimp, which are close relatives of Sea Monkeys, to some pet fish. 8O

Thanks for the practical tips Temeraire. It sounds like you have given a lot of thought to the whole dragon-pet, pet dragon issue
