The only holiday that works for me is Veteran's Day. I either get a big discount everywhere I go that day, or I get my meals for free. And complete strangers walk up to me and thank me for my service (I wear an old American Legion hat with some service ribbons attached to it). It's the one day of the year when I feel 'special' for doing something that almost cost me my life.

Awe crap, your a veteran ? Yeah , yeah , almost died in the service of my country , sighes .. yup at the very hands of my country ..buncha biowarfare testing crud .. that they already knew it works. WTF . Husbands ,,late best friend , agent Orange .. well nice to get a free meal. Husband , survives, Veitnam in country ,2 good conduct awards only to be assasinated by county gov using national guard seargant ..in cover up to this day. But hey .. am not dead yet.
But am glad for yah.

I haven’t celebrated the holidays with my whole family in alot of years, since I cannot drive, someone had to pick me up, it like I’m force to talk, I have nothing in common with them, sometimes if I want to talk, nothing comes out of my mouth. When I was a child, I love Halloween, me & my mom put up Halloween decorations, my teenage years were good too, I changed when I was a mid teenager, my social skills for my family were very awkward & uncomfortable,I talked to them, but not alot. My mom dragged me to the family parties, she always tell me ‘if you are not in the car soon, I will leave without you, I was a slow dresser. Back then Thanksgiving & Christmas were around 8 hours, my family always put something new in the stove stuff stuffing, they come up with different ways to cook the turkey sometime. My family wants to meet 3 or 4 times in November & December, they have a braking party. I been spending the holidays in my apartment, I used to cook some Thanksgiving meals, when I got my cat, I been spending the holidays with her, I was happier.

The upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays might present the very environments of social interaction - which can be difficult with the Autism Spectrum. Hence, an aversion of sorts for the holidays.

We practically go right from Halloween to Christmas. Holidays have become way too commercialized. For holiday gifts, we mainly buy local - from merchants selling goods/services we actually need - talk about gifts that keep on giving!

Even taking into account the Autism Spectrum; the over-commercialization of the holidays becomes worse than that very humanness in which many on the Autism spectrum struggle.

Christmas, I love
New Year's Eve, I don't like
New Year's Day, I hate even more
Robbie Burns Day, I like
Valentine's Day, I actually like because I'm all for peace and love
St. Patrick's Day, I love. I call it Sweet Pea day for an obvious reason.
April Fool's Day, I think is stupid
Easter, I love. I allow myself sweets all that week, and that's the only week of the year I do that.
Mother's Day, I love
Victoria Day, is just another day for me.
Father's Day, I love
Canada Day, I can take or leave. I like that it's Canada's birthday but I don't like the loud fireworks that are set off around my area by troublemakers.
Labour Day, I find depressing. It reminds me of Back To School crap from my childhood and teen years.
Thanksgiving, I love
Halloween, I think is stupid
Remembrance Day, I have a love-hate relationship with. I like to remember the soldiers and veterans around the world who have fought and died between the beginning of WW1 and now. I find it depressing that a lot of people still hate Germans to this day.

And I find it depressing that a lot of people in the US still hate the south because of the Civil War and continue to mock us on TV and on the internet, stereotyping us all as racist inbreeding rednecks, but I no longer give a s**t anymore because I hate this whole damn country.

To quote Rhett Butler: "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn."

But anyways the Germans have my sympathy... I mean, I know exactly what it's like to come from a region that's ostracized for sins made in the past. :|

How are the holidays treated for meeting new people for potential longer-term friendships?

Are the holidays more favorable, unfavorable, or no difference at all in relation to the rest of the year in developing friendships?

Personally, I'm mixed; which is why I posted here.

The upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays might present the very environments of social interaction - which can be difficult with the Autism Spectrum. Hence, ample factors adding to an aversion of sorts towards the holidays.

These are the holidays in the UK (generally known as 'Bank Holidays'):

New Year's Day

Good Friday

Easter Sunday

Easter Monday

May Day (first Monday in May)

Whit Monday (last Monday in May)

August Bank Holiday (last Monday in August)

Christmas Day

Boxing Day

Quite a few of these are on Monday, in order to create an extended weekend.

I hate them all. Many shops closed, no postal deliveries, public transport services severely restricted, rubbish TV schedules. Same reasons that I dislike Sundays, in fact.

Awe .. am lamenting concept of long term relationships ,, omg ,, any relationships in real life . Much less holidays,
But if in my mind could gather all of you into one spot ,,less any trolls.
Any support a hugfest ,, followed by a huge fattening turkey dinner with all the fixings . Everyone just as they are big ,small, odd, weird or not . Just to say it happened. And maybe make friendships based on real life.. with high functioning aspies supervising , or watching out for miscommunications .
And everybody busy eating .. and everyones Emphathy , Online .
Piles of Smiles to you all. And hopes for best or best of hopes for good thoughts of holidays, Even if it is just a background holiday music in a store.
:P ... ooppps .. sorry forgot about the hating holidays part ... do i have to hate hope too , or just holidays . Btw have just bought second hand , bad weather boots, all leather .... and had resoled and refurbushed . My personal present to me for the holidays. :) to all.
