I know about Escher because of the book Godel, Escher, Bach. (I haven't actually read it, but a lot of my friends have) and even then I only know of Godel, Escher, Bach because of the Godel part.

I'm not really into paintings/art, but relatively speaking, Escher's paintings are more interesting to me than most art.
