I would be a student at UBC and live in a multi-Million dollar penthouse on campus and have a second home in Squamish as close to The Spit (kiteboarding beach) as possible. I'd still stay right here in the Vancover area, though.
I've been to Vancouver. It's a nice city, but in my mind it all mixed together with Seattle, I visited both on the same trip, driving to Vancouver from Seattle. They felt very alike.
I think Seattle is my favorite city in the states though... Vancouver could be my favorite in Canada. I like Ottawa and Montreal as well though... Been to the Canadian side of the 'Falls.
Whenever we return from American road trips, it's when we hit Seattle that it really starts to begin to really feel like home - same big green tree forest. So I can definitely understand blending memories of the two from a trip.
I've never been that far East in Canada or the USA - so have never been to Ottawa or Montreal or any of the Maritimes or the New England states. I've been as far East in Canada as Winnipeg when I was only a few years old, and would have to look at a map to see how far I've been in the USA - but basically whatever's South of Alberta, maybe a bit of Saskatchewan, and West to the Pacific & South to Mexico. (Walked across the border into Tijuana when we were on a Disneyland road trip in 1991.)
The other major reason to be at UBC is Wreck Beach - my happy place.
The Spit for kiteboarding is the other one. The highway in between is for motorcycling.
