I used them even after I got my first cell phone - using them was cheaper per minute.
There were still plenty of them when I was in high school.

Wikipedia claims, their number decreased the most between 2006 and 2008, so obviously I've had time to see and use them.

Wow how old are you?

When I was a kid there was practically a telephone box at the end of every big street.

Nowadays they are mostly turned into other things.

But still exist.

I like the ones turned into people's libraries aka places to leave books.

They always smelt of wee cos drunks used to wee in them

I never noticed they stopped existing. They used to be very common here.

I remember clearly how terrifyingly fast the coins rattled through it while doing long distance, feeding new coins and talking at the same time. In Norway all of them was red. And often non functional. And far apart.

I had a crush on someone and wanted to hear their voice, so I drove to a phone booth, dialled their number, and hung up when they answered. It was right when people started having call display on their landlines and I didn't want him to know it was me. I thought a phone booth would make it more anonymous. :P Then I got worried he would still see the phone booth number and track it down and realise it was me, by proximity.

I'm embarrassed to say I was in my 20's at the time lol.

Ohmy yes I remember how girls did that. Boys too. The first coin didn't drop until connection was established, it was even time to hear the 'hello' before the coinless connection was cancelled. My group of preteens was actually planning to wire up our own telephone system, but ofc we never got wires for it.
