Indeed!

I need it like a need a hole in the head lol - I already have a car and a motorcycle.. and insurance and especially gas are very expensive here. It's almost $100 to fill the tank in my Dodge Dart, it'd be almost $200 to fill the tank in this car and not drive nearly as far.

BUT, I've always loved 60's continentals AND am a huge fan of colour change flake paint (I had an '85 vw golf with similar paint) soooo, in the condition that it's in and the price he wants for it, I'd regret Not buying it (if it checks out as good) - Especially since it's on the island in a very limited market and just by bringing it over to the mainland and spending a weekend or two cleaning it I'd probably be able to sell it for more than double. A bit of a no brainer if it's a no-lose position. Buy it, cruise around a bit in the summer, drive it to some parties etc and then either store it for the winter or sell it. Or maybe drive it for a couple summers, then sell it for enough to cover almost every penny I spent to drive it - including gas.

So yeah, I have a reliable car and motorcycle - I don't Need another car - especially not one rated for 9.2mpg that will probably get about 6 or 7mpg. But I Want it. 8)

Just prepaid for the ferry trip over to the island & back with one car, and a one way back for the other. Hopefully everything checks out as good as the seller says and I bring this beauty home! If not it's kind of a waste of 2-3 hundred dollars for ferries and restaurant meals sorta - but - then again, I haven't been to the island for over 20 years and never know could get a break in the weather and see some whales at sea or something. It's also not a bad way to hangout with one of my uncles I don't see very often. He's a retired mechanic and is into collector cars (he has a 1964 Impala SS) and will be checking the car out mechanically, and his friend Joe is coming to be a second driver as my uncle can't drive long distances anymore. (MS) So not a total waste of time & money if the car Doesn't check out as solid and a good runner.. but obvi I sure hope it does! It'll be a dope ride for some summer cruising, going to some parties, maybe a car show or two -> but then again I'm gonna need to spend time loving my motorcycle, too.. such a difficult thing to balance.

 Thanks for the "Hood Luck," - appropriate considering this car was owned & painted by some big time coke dealer back in 1985. Now I have the hood's blessing to bring 'er over to the mainland and cruise around downtown. 8)

:D Thx! Hopefully it checks out and I do buy it - 99% sure it will happen, but there's always that 1% chance it's been misrepresented and in person it's like "Umm, no way - not worth the hassle."

This one is a cheap purchase price (negotiated lower than asking) But nearly $200 to fill the 25 gallon gas tank. And fortunately for me this car is in a town on the island with a population of 13,001 people (2016) sooo, very limited market for a custom looking car/collector cars in general. My uncle figures if it's solid it's worth about ~$10k on the mainland, so a bit of a no-brainer to go get it and float it over here.

But yeah, the chip shortage is ruining all sorts of things.. and that will continue for another year or two before chip production can be up high enough to meet demand.

auntblabby's location reminded me: I can renew my passport so I can cross the border into Washington state again and get gas there for ~40% cheaper than here. That'd make driving this car around a bit more in the summer not so bad! $120 to fill the gas tank instead of $200 is much more palatable. 8)

is renewing a passport as hard as getting one in the first place?

I dunno, I only ever had one once - and only to cross to Point Roberts to go to my aunt's cabin for a family gathering. One of my aunts told me if you renew it before it expires, it's cheaper and easier, but after it expires you have to go through the whole process as if it was the first time again - so go get forms signed off and witnessed by my family Doctor, get passport photos taken, go wait in line and pay etc.

Considering the gas savings it would pay for itself in 2 fill ups or so - by the 3rd fill up it's cash in my pocket. Bonus is the half price beer, too, so 2 trips for gas and beer pays for the passport. Another trip if I pay for the one that's good for 10 years.

Hmm.. passports , when got my passport 7 yrs ago no one said anything about “having a doctor involved .”
But in these days of Covid, who knows what might have changed?

It doesn’t have to be a Medical Doctor. It could be your Lawyer or Dentist or some other certified trustworthy professional that can vouch for your identity. Most people just get their Doctor to sign it afaik.

It’s not available here, either, so no big deal. I’ve never ever seen it or heard of it besides on these forums. It may be a regional thing back East somewhere.

Up at 5am today, coffee now - just a bit before 6. Quick shower and I'm outta here to go pick up my uncle and his friend Joe to zip down to the Ferry terminal and catch our boat to Vancouver Island - landing in Victoria and then driving to some small town on the West Coast of the island called "Sooke." And then as long as everything checks out, this beauty attention whore of a car is coming home with me to get cleaned up and become a summer roller to hit the beach, some parties, And be a recent acquaintance's wedding car. 8) Maybe we'll use it in some Facebook live "shows," or a music video/photo shoots etc - any stupid-fun reasons to take this car out in the sunlight and turn heads. :D
