Well, considering that I have been known to become possessed by the occasional demon/dead Native American spirit/noncorporeal alien, I think it is an expedient method of letting people know that it is me posting.

I sign my name after private messages and emails, but not with forum posts. To me, PMs and emails feel the same as letters, and so it makes sense to me to sign my name after them for some reason. It probably sounds weird, but at least it makes sense to me!
