I thought this was about Terrence and Phillip

There isn't really much difference between Vodka, however back in the day I would get blotted on VlaVlod vodka and aniseed

Yes, there is.

Either you’ve had all very similar vodkas and don’t realize there’s a wide range of quality in terms of taste/smell/feel etc, or you’ve only ever drank your vodka mixed with pop or juice so you can’t tell the difference.

But there is a massive difference between vodkas. Smirnoff is bottom of the barrel - I can’t think of one I’ve tried that’s worse.

Vodka is certainly cheaper to get drunk on than scotch.

Most scotches taste gross - I wouldn’t opt to buy them even if they were cheaper than vodka.

Vodka is cheaper, but alcohol is very expensive here so getting drunk on anything costs quite a bit compared to most places in the world.

I can definitely pick up a wider range of flavours/tastes based on oak barrel/fermentation prep in scotches > vodkas

Vodka in Australia has a reputation as a teenagers drink, usually in mixers

My preference is for whiskey although I don't know the subnames like Scotch and Bourbon.
I like Glenfiddich, JD, and Jim Beam.

Vodka is nice becuase it's so versatile with any number of drinks.

I can't stand rum. It gives me heartburn and even the smell makes me feel ill.

My partner likes spiced rum. It's nice on his breath but that's as far as I'll go.

My son won't drink vodka or any spirits, really. He's more into beer.

My daughter won't drink rum but likes whiskey, vodka, and wine.

I don't like wine but I'll do red wine socially.

Of course. Plenty more flavours in scotches or whiskeys than straight unflavoured vodka.

But there's still a huge range of quality in straight unflavoured vodkas. Some are silky smooth to drink and others are harsh and burn your throat and sinuses as if you're drinking gasoline -> that's what Smirnoff is; the gasoline of vodkas. It's fkn gross. Meanwhile, even at only 2-3 dollars more, Stoli is like drinking some fine natural spring water in comparison.

I used to be dismissive of vodka, but lately I find it to have fewer consequences relative to colored spirits.

Last I had was Gray Goose at my folks', I believe it is French. Never had problems with it.

I also got a huge (1.75L?) bottle of Belvedere from my boss, it lasted me 2 years at the rate that I drink. Polish I think. It was also fine.

russian standard is sold here but I can't recall if I've ever tried it or seen it anywhere at a bar or in anyone's home or at a party or the beach etc - afaik it's not very popular. But chances are it ought to be more popular than it is because almost anything is going to be better than Smirnoff. :P But maybe it's simply not as good a value as Stoli is for the money ? Or others.

Another vodka I quite like but almost never buy because it's almost twice the price of Stoli, up there with the price of Belvedere and Grey Goose, is Van Gogh Espresso - soooo gooooood served ice cold right out of the freezer. 8) (the regular clear one, the double espresso that's coloured dark I think isn't near as good tasting.)

Everything works with lemonade or homemade iced tea
