If it’s plastic you can unscrew and clean out what is call a p trap. Its the curvy part under sink. It’s how my sink is plumbed so I was able to fix it myself. When you get it unclogged get screens that fit in the drains to prevent particles from going down the drain. They aren’t expensive.
Pour boiling hot water down the drain every now and again to keep grease from building up.
Fly paper for flies.

I had this issue with my sink recently. Dismantled part of the pipework and cleaned out a couple of sections, but couldn't fit them back together again, so had to call the plumber anyway, lol. Cost me £72.

i am afraid that if i "dismantled part of the pipework", i would make the sink even worse.

^ If it comes down to dismantling stuff, if you have a phone, take pictures as you go so you can reassemble in that order, in reverse. That's what I do when I have plumbing issues and I have yet to destroy my house by using that method. Not saying it will necessarily work, but you can at least put it back together the right way.

You have my sympathies. My upstairs tub is jacked and I've had times where my downstairs bathroom sink was my kitchen sink. To say it sucks is an understatement. Fingers crossed you get it fixed sooner than later. That crap is soo stressful.

Mine took a few days of plunging to unblock it. Don't give up.

Fill the sink with water and then plunge with as much force as you can.
My girlfriend did something like that at our current apartment & the pipe under our drain came lose. We didn't realize at 1st had alot of wate to clean up. This building was not made well. I'd feel safer pouring hydrochloric acid down a sink than using a lot of force to plunge the drain.
