Unfortunately, I have a dismal memory, so only a small portion of the information is actually retained.

Same here - for a lot of subjects, I lose names, dates, figures, etc and I'm left with just a general impression.

Tske the important stuff, that seems to be important,to you , Use it for reference information to try to build on other
concepts... perhaps .. 8O

Does confidently hitting a golf ball with a lefty club count as learning something new if you are one of the many here who are cross dominant? It took me about a week of serious practice to go from something I could do occasionally to something I could count on being able to do consistently.

As I gain experience I can deal with more external factors, such as a group of kids learning to play golf on the other half of the chipping green. As well as more static variables like ground slope and turf conditions.

Im not a huge learner. I have quite a mentally taxing job, and between that and chores etc. I don’t really feel like a lot learning during my relax time.

I do try and make it a little daily habit though. When reading a magazine or newspaper I try to read in depth one article from each section on a topic that wouldn’t usually interest me, just so that I can expand a bit and think about something new.

I was quite surprised that Amidism, or Pure Land Buddhism, does not center around Buddha Gautama. It was started by a Buddha named Amitabha. Amitabha created Pure Land through his vows and accumulated merit. In a normal Buddhist heaven, or paradise, you are there until you have used all your merit and then reincarnate. But in the Pure Land, you never have to reincarnate. You are there until you reach nirvana.

"Amitabha vowed to save all sentient beings by granting them rebirth in his realm, the 'Western Paradise,' a pure land endowed with miraculous characteristics ensuring its inhabitants easy entry into nirvana. Salvation could be attained by invoking the name of Amitabha with absolute faith in his grace and the efficacy of his vow. It was believed that Amitabha and his retinue would appear to the faithful at the time of death and convey them to his paradise." - https://www.infoplease.com/encyclopedia ... d-buddhism

You are welcome. I started researching Pure Land because of episode one of Shogun. When someone is dying, they say something like, "Think of the Buddha." And they talk about being reborn in the Pure Land. That got me curious. Anyways, just thought I'd share.

I have a friend who studies something every day, and he is very knowledgeable about all kinds of things, like ancient history, astronomy, physics, philosophy. I feel like maybe I should try to do that too, but at best I'll watch a documentary on YouTube about the Romans or the Minoans, or about consciousness. This is better than nothing, but I think I might be too unmotivated to do better. Do you try to learn new things?

I'd love too but I'm too much of a space cadet

My daughter on the other hand is and absolute font of knowledge. It's like she's constantly learning stuff

I just learned about flu-flu arrows so I may be able learn how to shoot a bow and arrow in my back yard!
They are limited range arrows for shooting at aerial targets.
