The Bomb!

So they would show us young children that film of Nucleur holocaust where you see the little boys eyes melting and the melting, screaming girl holding the fence before the blast shreds the flesh from her skeleton.
The bucket of wedding rings, showing the number of dead.

We did get some really usefull info though on how to survive, you have to take a door off its hinges and lay it against the wall and get behind it for a few weeks untill you gradually die or something.

Is that the TVM THREADS? arguably the bleakest, most depressing film ever made.

Im too young to have been shown that at school, but im sure theres plenty of 30-somethings whove never been quite the same since they came back from school that day!

E2A: sorry - 1960's - maybe it was 'the war game' you saw - harrowing stuff anyway.

Martin Luther. I think the version we watched was made in the 1920s.

It was dull.

It would take forever to list them all (I think I could, though! lol), but here are the ones that stood out for me:

"Arsenic and Old Lace"- watch it if you get a chance, it's hilarious
"The Changeling"- watched it on Halloween in 8th grade; by far one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen
"The Indian in the Cupboard"- I was so literal as a kid, the title freaked me out until I actually read the book lol
"12 Angry Men"
"Sarah Plain and Tall"
"Julius Caesar"- with a young Marlon Brando... :D

War Games, thats the one, Ive seen threads as well, in fact Ive got them both on dvd somewhere having bought copies on e-Bay, Iam a sucker for nostalgia!.

Still, looks like Dick Cheney is itching to start a nucleur world war 3, just got to get the voters in the mood first, http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/georgepacker/2007/08/if-there-were-a.html
Maybe another 911 will help?

I pity you young-uns who wont know what to do, how will you survive?
Put your mattress on top of the door you lent against the wall, that helps.

On a more serious note, today I took delivery of a Berkefeld Water filter.
Says it removes 99% of all patogens but doesnt mention anything about nucleur contamination.
Perhaps you scientific ones can help me here, I guess this filter will remove any Alpha and Beta wave emitting particles, so, does that mean the water becomes safe to drink, or does the water itself become contaminated?

The tread about why its allright for men to go topless and not women, just reminded me of another film they used to show us in primary school.
It was how they make chocolate and they would show us these African tribes women collecting coca leaves in the jungle, they where topless, if you had seen the film you would not need to ask why women shouldnt go around topless.

Maybe its handy if you want to suckle your infant whilst its lying on the floor and youve got a bad back from carrying so many coca leaves so dont want to bend over?

After the film they gave us all a lovely little bar of Cadburys chocolate to eat, yum yum!

Is that a type of reverse osmosis filter? Ive been meaning to look into something like that - a guy on another board mentioned yesterday he has a water distiller, and it seperates out large amounts of a vile smelling green-grey gunge that could scare you off tap water for life.

Films foe education:
Lord of the Flies
Macbeth (which in fact featured full frontal nudity IIRC)
Some horror film, where there are LOTS of bugs crawling into a house (for some kind of history/psychology lesson)
Romeo and Juliet

At the end of a term, for fun:
Jurassic Park (in year 7, everyone in the hall cheered when the T-rex ate the velociraptor at the end)
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

No, it uses some sort of filter made from sea shells or something, it doesnt require any electricity or mains water pressure to run so you can just fill it up with muddy water you find in a puddle if you like.
Heres the e-Bay discription

Also we watched

Forrest Gump in PSME
Star Wars (I didn't mind that one)
Jurrasic Park (Absolutly boring I was so bored a friend had a palm top computer and I managed to get away with playing with that whilst that film was on)
There was another one can't remember it's name but it was set in the rainforest I found that one dragged along alot.

We had to READ everything. The only film that really got burned into the memory banks was something about the Holocaust, all in black and white and real footage and it showed the Nazis playing "football" w/ a little baby. I'v NEVER forgotton that image. Don't even want to think about it and now I am. And the ditch full of bodies and all the gold fillings and mountains of shoes.
Also made us watch "Shane" I think. I slept cause I'd allready read the book.

"Shane, come back..."

I had to watch a ton of bad films in French class

Vatel
Jean de Flourette
Manon du Source
La Gloire de Mon Pere
Le Chateau de Ma Mere
The Seduction of Dr. Lewis
Cyrano de Bergerac
Les Diaboliques
Les Parapluies de Cherbourg
Apres Vous
Diva
Mon Oncle
Amelie
A Very Long Engagement

Out of all of these, "A Very Long Engagement" was the only one I liked.

I remember when Sarah Ferguson married Prince Andrew, we had too watch that at school.

I can't remember if it was live or a recording, but it was very boring.

i've like most of the movies i've watched in school except for
julius ceasar(not the marlon brando version :-( )- it was very boring and i couldn't hear what they were saying. plus we watched it on a small tv that was hanging from the wall.
O- it ruined the beauty of otello for me.
romeo+juliet-the movie was so annoying
little buddha-i laughed everytime keanu reeves(buddha) opened his mouth.
to kill a mockingbird- honestly, i had no clue what was going on when i watched to kill a mockingbird. i'd probably enjoy more if i watched it now.

i happily watched(so far at least):
sunset blvd(i actually had already seen it before)(want to own it)
lawrence of arabia
paper moon(own it now)
the apartment
the graduate
forest gump
romeo and juliet
casablanca(i actually had already seen it before)(want to own it)
walmart:the high cost of low price-the only movie that my awesome history teacher showed us.

I remember in Middle School we watched House Of Wax w/Vincent Price in 3-D which unfortunately is something I can't appreciate as I have no depth perception, and in high school my General Science class got to watch a wonderful Oscar-winning documentary called "Why Man Creates" This is a movie I would really like to see again.
