I was banned for a day from one forum for telling a politically incorrect joke. It was published in a book, so I did not think anyone would take offence, and most of the other members agreed that it was stupid of one of the admin to ban me, even if it was only for a day.

I was a mod for a friend's forum, but there was only four members, so there was nothing to moderate and I think that, eventually, everyone stopped using it. Yes, all four of us! :P

Other than that I've never been a mod. Those jobs seem to be reserved for the popular members on the boards I do use (although I don't use many!).

I'm a mod on an archery board, and have been banned from one religious board because they thought I was too liberal for them. I frequent other boards without any problems, just the occasional drama that creeps up now and then.

I've moderated an RP chat and operated two RP sites. I've been active on message boards since 1996 and I've never even received a warning, much less been banned.

Yes. I'm permanantly banned from MySpace for trying to organize a rebellion against the administrators there.

I endorse this notion (WRT here).

Good fortune,

Nah, never been a part of message boards enough to be even close to being a mod. Wrongplanet is the most I have ever posted on a forum. Though I have been banned a couple times in the past from forums.

I have an ambition to join and then get banned from John Byrne's message board, though. I'd love to see how quickly I could annoy him so much that he'd get rid of me

Why? Who is he?

John Byrne is a comic book artist & writer (he's worked on a great number of famous characters, such as the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and Superman)... or he was, until both of the major US publishers (Marvel and DC) realised what a bigoted, curmudgeonly old git he is and cut him off completely - which is their fault for not recognising his greatness, according to him. He is infamous in the industry for being hyper-opinionated and extremely rude to people who disagree with him, and his message board thinned out significantly recently after he banned somebody for wanting to read tributes from the board's regulars at the funeral of a former poster (he has a policy of wanting to keep stuff said on his board from getting into the outside world, apparently). He also tends to arbitrarily ban people for disagreeing with him, even if said people have been massively positive to him only a few days beforehand - for example, the guy who owns the comic shop I go to was a regular there, and was recently banned for just this reason.

Now me, I'm also hyper-opinionated online, and I can argue my case with just as much vigour and venom as the next guy, so I'm curious to know how long it would take for me to butt heads with the guy so much that he kicked me out. Call it morbid curiosity

I co-moderated an Aspie group on Yahoo with my then-girlfriend. It was in operation from 2003-2005, we closed it due to lack of member participation.

only banned (and then unbanned) from one online community, that online community happened to be this one, needless to say this place turned into a kind of online "safe haven" for me :)
