Actually it is an ethnicity. In the old days Jews always married other Jews so it because a very select and small gene pool. Also there are a number of serious Jewish genetic disorders so indeed it seems we are a distinct group of people.

Please don't start the whole Zionist debate thing. This thread was meant as a Happy Holidays thread to OTHER JEWS. Not a place for Gentiles to debate Zionists. If you are Goy and want to argue some point, please start a new post on that.

You misunderstand. It is true that some Jewish sects have genetic disorders in higher numbers and there is intermarrying. But that is not the same as saying all sects can trace their root back to that same origin. This has been disproved. Communities in Pakistan, Peru, etc also have genetic disorders because of a customs of marking first cousins. It doesn't take that many generations to cause these problems.

Zionism is not a view of all Jews, it is just a concept. Why are gentiles excluded from this thread? Fair enough anyway.

Have a good year :)

Can you not read? It is a post to fellow Jews. Gentiles do not normally celebrate the holiday. If they want to wish their Jewish friends a good holiday that is fine. But it is not the thread to debate Zionism nor Jewish genetics. Just like if someone started a Merry Christmas post I wouldn't post on there to debate Democracy or syphilis.

First you didn't explicitly state who was allowed to post and secondly the president has already set for that and you are not allowed to explicitly restrict people from commenting. I’m not being disruptive deviating slightly of topic is not against the rules.

Secondly I was merely commenting on your own deviation about what it means to be Jewish. So I was not being irrelevant. Some Jewish people believe the Zionism is an important part of who they are and other believe it is immoral. So really I wasn't being irrelevant at all. Though I'm not sure why you have such a problem with it. Par for the course. I wished you a happy year.

Btw I don’t claime to be an authority on what it means to be Jewish. If I believed I was Jewish I would be in my mind. Though it is interesting to look at the claims and issue about the Jewish identity or any identity.

Haha.

Not one myself, but I might as well say happy holidays. I think that Jewish culture is quite interesting.

Never apologise for asking a question. If you don't ask questions you might never learn anything new. Curiosity is a virtue.

Do you really think that I do not understand this? I was sorry to have inadvertently introduced political strife into this thread; I really just poked in head in here to wish all a happy holiday. But if I had not raised the question, people would not have started bickering over it.

Good fortune,

There isn't any bickering.

The worst mistake any religion - Judaism INCLUDED is to mix politics with faith. Very bad. Very unhealthy. And not doing anyone any good, anywhere at any time. God doesn't need politics to reveal Himself into this world. All He needs is a heart with some empty space to allow Divinity to unfold. Faith. Belief. Trust. Love. Allowing. Being.

Is.

Politics POLLUTES love.

End of story.

Happy belated Rosh Hoshanna.

*Can someone explain to me the significance of eating apples and honey. When I asked my bf to explain why he didn't go into any more detail than saying it was the new year.

Apple - round, sweet, ripe, a bit tangy, hard, juicy - symbolizes the year in its entirety - and its spectrum. The honey - even if the year virtually sucked from a certain vantage point - the honey will sweeten the memory and judgments of the year to come.

To you too. A very good and sweet year. Have the strength to endure and rise above.
