I see you retracted your statement.

Not sure why, this is a forum open to everyone and their opinions.

Looking back at my post, I realize it looks like I'm whining a lot.
I guess I was just needing to vent and I used space here to do so.

I'll try and watch that next time

Well, I actually felt like I could understand your statement... up to a point

I can also understand that it may get on someone's nerves when I go trap those cats, bring them into my home making all these comments about adopting them, then go on about how I 'can't handle it!".

If anyone felt I was sounding pathetic... I probably wouldn't blame them.

Same for you! :D

No hard feelings on my side.

Actually, it takes courage to realize that you can't do what you originally thought that you could. I knew a person who was on the spectrum, who would hurl a sofa cushion at her cat in irritation whenever the cat would groom itself. She just couldn't bear it. Please find good homes for them, that's all. Now that they are domesticated.

For a while now, people at work keep telling me I need a pet so I will go home after my shift ends at 11:30pm. I often stay til 3 or 4 in the morning.

I've also been getting more lonely lately than I have the rest of the last couple of years, so I allowed myself to be seduced by the idea of having, "A warm body waiting for me to come home".

Having the kittens the last three days, I've realized that all by myself (my daughter does stay part of the time with me though) I probably won't be the most responsible caretaker for them.

I often forget things, sometimes for days and this could be just buying catfood.

There have been several posts abou sensitivity to sound/light/touch, and I've posted the same thing in each one.
Basically, I realize these kittens will require someone who can be there for their needs much more and better than I.

I really am sad about this, but I am committed to finding them good homes.
I will keep them a couple of weeks longer so they can get their shots.
In the meantime, I will continue to contact the local rescue organizations and shelter.
I can even advertise them on a pet adoption website of some sort.

Good idea. A kitten who has had her shots is often easier to place. People will most often adopt a kitten before they'll take a full grown cat.

You tried, and now you know. I think you've displayed great compassion and courage. Bless you.

WSMAC, you've done a great job of rescuing the cats, if you can find them good homes, they will be four lucky kitties!

Good luck on rehoming the cats. You did a great job helping them get to the point where they can potentially be successfully adopted.

I appreciate your comments.

Thank you.

The small town I live in has a serious feral cat problem. Within sight of my front yard I can count around 6 or 7 cats that just walk the streets.

Moving through the town, I believe I would not be able to find one street without a cat roaming on it, day or night.
I realize some of these cats may be 'pets'.
But I cringe at so many potential 'baby factories' walking around.

And... condoms will do no good!
I just get blank stares from the Tomcats, when I try to explain kittykondoms to them! :D

wsmac,
could get some photos of them on here?

sister had that experience to,she found a group of cats in the garden of the place she works at a while ago, brought them all home in the car,as the mum was extremely underweight, partly because she was starving and because the kittens were using up all the food through milk.

the mum cat [sandy, also known as the whore or sandybum] is a rubbish mum,and will just drop and leave her kittens lying anywhere if there's any food lying around for her to steal.
she will tear open sachets of cat food and is able to get all the food out of them.
they have to lock the cupboards as she will go through them all.
the kittens were all beautiful, they all went to new homes, apart from one, called runty,a tortie lady with orange eyes,as she had no awareness of people, and if anyone went near her,she would run off, no one wanted her and all family managed to persuade her to keep her along with sandybum.
she got this book about managing cats/kittens and their behaviors [will ask her tomorrow as am going to her house and see what it's called,it might be worth borrowing/buying],it taught her a lot of stuff about her kittens, and runty will now come and sleep on humans knees.
when am go in the house, sandy is often there with her arse in the air,and meowing more than usual, sister says sandy is a whore, and is trying to get all the toms to make her kittens,so she having an operation/neuturing as soon as sandy and runty are old enough to have it done together [vet said till she's four or five months, don't know which],she got her reduced price for the operations through the cats protection, but via am, as am get benefits, also if haven't done, check if local cats protection charities offer price reductions on neuturing for wild cats taken in,as some do.

Well, the kittens are all in separate homes now.
I think they are all in good homes too.

I am sad to see them go, but I do sleep better, and things are a bit less stressful now.
They were really cute and fun. I am glad I took them away from becoming three more fertile cats out on the streets.
We also have possum, coons, and foxes roaming the streets at night and I know cats get into fights with these other critter from time-to-time.

Anyway, I thought I'd post a pic here of the three litte wild cats!
As I hope you can see... they stole my skateboard and would zoom around the house all day on it!
Bashing into ankles, calling out insults in their tiny little cute kitten voices... yeah... they were rebels alright!

Hi
I actually didn't see your post until I finally got my picture to show up.
Thanks for writing. Wish I had seen it earlier.

I have offered to help the three new owners get these cats 'fixed' when they are old enough.
I gave each new owner a cat carrier box(one of those hard plastic ones with the metal gate on it), info from the vet on kitty care and when to get them 'fixed', and a few little trinkets. The last person got the kitty condo (one of the little carpeted towers), catbox- complete with freshly scooped litter  , and food.

In the end, I figure I spent around $200 on the mom and her babies. Shots, flea medicine, examinations, kitty supplies and food.
That's okay since I'm not very good about money anyway and I don't really miss it. :P

But I don't want to have to do that again... mainly for the cost.

I really like animals... I just find it hard to take care of them by myself.

I am thinking about maybe getting a much older cat though. It seems to me the older cat we had when I was married, wasn't always following me around asking for something I couldn't figure out what it wanted.
Anyway, maybe an old cat that just likes sitting around, sometimes in my lap, mostly by itself.

I don't know... we'll see... guess it depends on how lonely I get too.

Kittens can be high maintenance...like toddlers..a little worse since they can get into the smallest places and are very, very inquisitive.

Honestly I did less "child-proofing" with my son. He didn't get into half as much trouble.

Adopting an older cat would be a kindness, since most people always want kittens. I always feel sad at the number of older cats who don't get adopted.
