Ice with cider?! ! Nooooo! You fool! Real cider has no ice! Real cider should taste of apples and knock your block off!

A local pub near to mine provides snacks like sausage rolls. Worth it for 5p on the pint I'd say.

If you're into the fruity "alcopop" side of drinks, maybe either stick to Smirnoff Ice, or WKD, or VK varieties. If you don't like apple cider (which I can't stand), there's a nice pear cider called Koppaberg which is sold in many pubs around. It goes down really nicely. But don't mix vodka and cider.. fruit with grain makes you sick. At least in terms of alcohol.

You could always try cider and blackcurrant. Beware, though, for it is the work of the devil!

There is that trick, but if you are weak with cider, take the ice as well. Its a matter of taste, i suppose.

Welcome to our arena, eh my dear?

Beyond alcopops, a lager top might work out well. Most draft lagers are fairly weak (avoid Stella) and the addition of lemonade sweetens the taste. Or theres the "drink of the goths", snakebite and black (lager, cider, blackcurrant) also referred to as diesel. Anything that's shots is probably a no-no. Avoid sambuca and jagermeister (evil firey liver death in a tiny glass at huge expense) Whatever you have, take it nice and easy, drink at your own pace. Keep an eye on your drink, and be polite to the barstaff, cause we are the facilitators of your happy, and can both give and taketh away, so to speak.

(That and we are underpaid, overworked, and have to talk to drunks all day. it wears thin after a while.)

Oh, vodka and orange - bleurgh! After puking up a few times on the stuff I won't drink it any more. I've had it with spirits. The strongest thing I'll drink these days is the aforementioned cider.

I went through the same experience with Ouzo & coke.
Sooo Sweet,but sooo nasty :!:
I haven't drank a coke in 20 years;the memory of those black ribbons in the toilet bowl & on the walls...

OK, here's the bar area of a typical English pub, Adrie. There are probably other drinks, like lager and Guinness, but these are the main ones on the bar.

Not so typical.. its a small brewery pub (Thwaites, it would seem) and thus mostly stocks beers brewed by that particular brewery. There are about 400 UK wide. Many pubs will be linked to one of the larger brewery companies (the carlsberg people are a good example, as under their dominion comes strongbow, calsberg, tuborg, and a glut of others.) Nevertheless, if you ignore the predominance of handpull pumps, otherwise its a pretty reasonable reflection yeah.

Well, yes. There would be more keg options. But that's the sort of place she should be frequenting.

A rich and wonderful part of our country is our beer-producing heritage. We have hundreds of real ale breweries producing thousands of beers up and down the country - they all taste different, with varying strengths. One of the great things about Britain is that you can sample all of these lovely ales. Not so long ago this was almost dying out but a campaigning organisation rescued this style of beer and it is alive and well today. Many pubs only have keg options, so your pint of bitter/lager/cider will taste the same in Glasgow as it does in Gloucester. Try to support the real thing whenever you can.

Look on the Internet if you're unsure of where to drink. London has loads of pubs so you should be able to find somewhere top-draw - even if that, after trying several pints of delicious real ale, you decide it's not your thing.

Absinthe is always nice. Doesn't take many to do the trick, either...

Flawless choice.

Good fortune,

I like Guinness and blackcurrant. Cheese and crackers are a given.
