Ladies and gentlemen, I present you the 1969 Super Yenko Camaro.
It was equipped with an aluminium 427in. V8 engine, the same used for Corvette at the time.
It has a 1/4 mile time of less than 12 seconds, beating a Dodge Viper, Porsche 911 Turbo, and about every Ferrari except for the F-50.

Allthough cars equiped by big block engines are famous for their understeering.
This is true, plus many of them were huge and had thin wheels totally unfit for the size of the car (look at the stock tires of a Dodge Charger 1966, for example). But the Camaro Super Yenko was all built for race purposes. It was not manufactured by Chevy ; Don Yenko designed it and sold it with lots of special features normal Camaros didnt have (think Shelby's Mustangs). First, the block engine was in
aluminium, which is about 2,5 times lighter than steel. This dramatically reduced the weight of the car, thus it had had a better steering. The Camaro Super Yenko was also equipped with power-steering and race suspensions. About only 250 were ever sold, and today you can buy one at around 100,000 USD.
Note that I would never have such a car, even if I was multi-millionaire. Riding a 427in. engine car is just agaisnt my environnemental values. If I ever win the lottery, I'd probably buy a Mazda RX-8 for the summer (coolest engine ever, only 1,3 L or so but can deliver nearly 250h.p.), and a Volvo S-60 for the winter.
The Mazda RX-8 is powered by a 1,3 liters Wankel engine. Wankel engines are built differently than ordinary piston engines. Instead of pistons and cylinders, they use combustion chambers with rotors.
They are cheap to build when it comes to horsepowers, and takes much less place, but they use a lot of gasoline, and don't offer much torque. The Mazda RX-7 engine (which is also 1,3 liters) can be tuned to over 700 bhp. I bet the RX-8 can be tuned to even more (unless it's the same engine block, that is).
