I was thinking that I might bring people's attention to a software app that helps in finding cures for various diseases. It's called Folding@home. It runs on your computer during times when the processor isn't being used for anything. It then sends the results back to a lab at Stanford University, where they get evaluated. Having numerous people all over the globe taking part in this effort allows more work to be done than could ever be accomplished on even the most advanced rendering farm, due to the sheer numbers of people doing it.

It is a line spoken by Zen the computer in Blake's 7 and about the only Zen like thing said by it in the entire 3 series (The Liberator and Zen had been destroyed in the 4th).

Well, I'm suprised at the variety of inspiration that went into the creation of our signatures. I knew that probably there would be a lot of variety, but not this much. It's really cool to see how everyone thinks by reading their signatures. I hope I'm not just repeating myself
gotta work on that :? ...

Keep those sigs coming!! !!

Having been here for awhile mine has gone through many changes.

But when Kurt Vonnegut died I was reading an obituary which mentioned these lines of poetry from "Slaughterhouse Five". I like them very much, and really must look up some book by the author one of these days....

Mine's a quote from my favorite book, "Tailchaser's Song". I freak out every time I lose that book, which means that kid made me REALLY angry to get me to throw it at him.

I'm thinking of changing it to:

"I would put something witty here if I didn't keep getting hit in the head in gym."

Because I think some signatures are amazingly funny and I have this quote from a book. That, and I get hit almost every time I go to gym. Meh...

I started using a signature sometime after my 2000th post, the text is a parody of Napoleon Bonaparte's apocryphal
remark: "Able was I ere I saw Elba". It is also a link to a screen-shot collage I made from a photo taken of me a few
years ago at an industrial electronics company I was working for combined with a picture of my avatar ("The Bookworm" by Carl Spitzweg) and my mouse-pad with an antique map image on it. It pretty much says "This is who I am and this is what I'm about."

I was thinking about how I don't have an avatar for this nick. I still don't have any ideas, open too suggestions.

I'll probably change my sig soon too (when I find an avatar?). I'm not sure what it'll change to, maybe "I am not an atomic playboy."? Bonus points if you know both places that that comes from. :D

Or maybe something philosophical, but it's hard to find something good that isn't too abstract. Maybe a quote from Sophie's World or Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainance.
