I walk fast and cannot stand it when people walk slowly in front of me, especially when they walk in groups, side-by-side, and block the path. Irritates the hell out of me. They could still talk if they went single file.

 I do the same with people who drive too slow, as in less than the speed limit. I will tell them, "It's the one on the right!" Regarding the gas pedal of course.

Well...for some people it is.

I hate it when people behind me are so pushy. I'm just trying to walk, look around and stuff, there's plenty of room to walk past me on either side, but no, they want to walk behind me and sigh loudly like I'm taking up the entire hall.

The theme here seems to be that aspies walk at their own pace (fast or slow) while NTs tend to walk at the same pace as other people in the vicinity.

I walk faster than most people. In South Texas, the culture seems to encourage extreme slow-walking. People stare at me as I zip past them, but I'm moving too fast to hear any comments that might have been directed at me.

I walk very fast... all my friends always grab my arm and make me walk next to them because they know if they don't i will be off like a rocket... whenever they see me walk past it's a running joke to shout "Steph's on a mission" cause i hate walking slow!! ! whats the poit in walking slow, just means your going to get there and have less time to do whatever it is you need/want to do!!

I think it has to do with evolution. Humans have an instinctual urge to conserve energy (And NOT time) and our system is built to conserve the most energy at a certain pace. Humans are wanderers, not runners, not even marchers. Is is how we survived - By walking further than the predators would and gather food in wider ranges.
It is also why we have so many complicated births, because the bone structures in our pelvis are designed to walk for a long period of time without spending too much precious energy and without getting worn too much.

I surmise that our people have less of a tendency to mimick other people's walking speed and consequently we decide to make up our own walking speed. Others don't. And we don't feel the instinctual need to preserve energy because we have plenty now that we no longer starve on the plains of Africa... Just a damned shame some people still do :( .

Yeah, let's not make everything an AS symptom, LOL.

But I totally agree about being annoyed with people walking so slowly...or stopping in the middle of the road to talk to each other, oblivious to the fact that they are inconveniencing everyone walking behind them...

I am always the one pulling my friends out of the way when they stop to tell me something, or to look at a map, etc., haha.

oh yeah... people are such slowpokes when it comes to walking.

to topit all off, when the venue is already quite crowded - people walk side-by-side, suddenly stop without any warning, walk perpendicular to the main stream without looking sideways, stop suddenly while doing that...
i am used to maneuvering my way through flocks of them, but the sudden stopping i find enerving. ill usually indicate them to stop blocking the venue and say something like: "excuse me... not right in the middle, thanks *pushes past*"

Oh yeah, drives me mad that slow walking and blocking thing people do. I always feel like saying 'move it!' Lol.

I notice it's always groups of youth dressed like delinquents that walk slow on purpose and act like they own the sidewalk. It’s so maddening. :x

Yes, and schoolkids, (around age 14-16) don't some of them move soooo slooowww too? At that age they should be bursting with energy, not meandering along the pavement being overtaken by snails.
I think if people get in your way, especially by doing blocking manoeuvres, you should be allowed to use a cattle prod to speed 'em up a bit. Nothing too painful, just a quick zap to get them moving, lol.

If this free world would allow it, I would adopt the standard rugby charge, one arm out in front, hand facing forward. Although my version would see that the slow were mercilessly slapped out of the way.

Because of my size and stature, people always think that I am incapable of moving fast, then we go for hike and I have to wait for them at signposts and that in case they don't know where I've gone.

My best friend is almost certainly HFA, and she walks fast. She comments that people look like they're out for a Sunday stroll.

People comment on how I walk... I've been compared to a Cyberman. I strut really fast with my arms held out to the sides. I look like I'm going somewhere really fast in a hurry, which confuses people as I tend to walk in circuits around street corners and such; instead of actually going anywhere specific.
